Oh! It’s still alive?? I thought this died along with the Ubuntu phone all those years ago.
It comes up rising out of the ashes like a phoenix, now that Google is ruining Android.
ubports have continued maintaining it. It was based on 16.04 for the longest tie, but they’ve made good leaps in the last two years.
UBPorts almost immediately picked it up after it died, along with Unity 8 (now Lomiri)
I upgraded my pixel 3axl and still waiting to get to the login screen, seems stuck, though the clock is working. Might have to do a complete new install, which is a hassle i wasn’t looking forward to.
it bums me out I have to revert to stock android 9 in order to flash it. postmarketOS and mobian flash just fine off A15.
You might know this already, I’m not sure about Mobian, but postmarketOS at least is usually a mainline Linux kernel, so it shouldn’t matter what android version is installed. Ubuntu touch I think usually uses libhybris and Halium which uses the android kernel and vender driver blobs, which is why it has to have a specific version of android. Those projects have only updated supported to android 9’s kernel so far (i believe). Its also why projects based on Halium and Libhybris usually have better hardware support vs postmarketOS, they’re using the binary blob drivers the manufacturer provided vs reverse engineering them like postmarketOS and mainline kernel approach does.
Is there any way to run Ubuntu touch in a proot container (like Termux) yet?
Ubuntu runs fine, but it would be nice to have a mobile-friendly UI.
Not sure, as I’m not really familiar with proot, but if you already have ubuntu working, you might be able to just install a mobile friendly DE like one of these: https://wiki.postmarketos.org/wiki/Category:Interface
