36-year-old of no fixed address let passengers on and off at bus stops
What’s the definition of theft in Canada? Here it requires intent to keep the object, which I don’t think is given in case of a spontaneous joy ride where the person returned the bus.
It’s the same as the definition of theft everywhere else. He stole a bus. You can’t get off saying to planned to return something like some 11 year old.
Here it’s only theft if you intend to keep it. Just borrowing without permission, as in this case, is not theft.
Just looked it up, and in Canada “intent to temporarily deprive the owner” is theft.
Canadian police seem pretty level-headed here.
“There was not a ding on the bus. He did a great job,” said McKenna said. “It’s comical but at the same time it’s serious. We’re thankful nobody was hurt.”
“We didn’t want to spook him,” he said. “We didn’t want to make this a tragedy.”
But they did charge him with several serious offences.
