    Sounds like they’re trying to build the foundation for their own version of the “stabbed-in-the-back myth” that infected Germany in the interwar period.

        The German delusion that led to to two world wars was buying their own militarist propaganda and believing they could fight the whole world.

        They did stab themselves in the back, and then told themselves lies about why they lost that blamed anything but the real culprit, a national delusion that they were better than their neighbors.
