Got rather over emotional at lunch with a friend, it’s a kind of pass on a heirloom type thing. Consoling myself by making fancy pie.

My first medical cannabis order will be available for pickup tomorrow (can have it delivered but I’d rather go get it, just in Carlton)

I brought the washing inside just in the nick of time. Unfortunately it’s not actually dry, but it is a little bit drier than when I put it out so I’m taking it as a win. I got a bit distracted by all my cooking plans and forgot to do the washing earlier and need some of it dry by tomorrow, so my work pants are now on the heated towel rail to expidite the process.

I’ve washed all my preserves from yesterday so they just need to be labeled and put away. This afternoon I’m packing the last of the meat that is still to go in the freezer and making a big batch of rissoles in mushroom sauce. I’m also planning on griling a bunch of vegetables to go into a future soup. I don’t have time to do the whole lot now so I’ll put the vegetables in the freezer to finish off later.

Edit: The ::: spoiler bruchetta topping looks nice with it’s mix of colours :::

Question of the day. Do like your mashed potato pureed like baby food or like an adult who can handle lumps? No judgement.

I mash it by hand with a masher after I’ve added the butter, finish it off with a whisk when I add the milk and kind of fluff it through with a fork at the end. It’s smooth but not commercial baby food smooth. Do I pass?

Depends on mood. I agree with MeanElevator that lumpy is at its best when fried up the next day as hash browns - specially with tinned salmon/tuna/sardines mixed in. 'Tis peak my lord. For dinner, I prefer smooooth, with plenty of butter and a pinch of cayenne.

      Both.

We have a river which is fantastic for making buttery and creamy mashed potatoes…like 1/3 butter and cream

Lumpy ones when making ones that my mum used to make. They’re better the next day if you fry them to reheat.

according to the internet everything I do is wrong, the last straw was telling me I walk wrong

I hike/walk to calm my mind, to stop it from racing, to bring peace, not to go from a to b or make huge fitness gains,

I do walk faster when doing errands, even so, they can fuck off , where someone who drives might dash on errands and only walk for 20 minutes I walk a bit slower but for many hours on errands

so how about they fuck off , starting with me not looking at YT stuff

Oh I hate those “you’ve been doing this wrong all your life” articles. Also those arguments about whether the sauce or butter etc goes in the fridge. READ THE FUCKING LABEL. IT’S WRITTEN ON THERE.

Any video or post that starts off with ‘You’ve been doing [insert activity] wrong’ loses my interest immediately

Can most things be improved in some way? Sure.

Do they need to be? Hell no.

Why can’t I stop myself from arguing with really dumb people on Reddit? I think my brain just refuses to accept they can really be as stupid as they seem so keep poking trying to figure out what’s really going on. But after a while I start to think that I’m going completely crazy and 2+2 doesn’t equal 4 like I think it does. It’s always a relief when someone else weighs in on my side and shores up my own world view a little.

This is why I’m partially grateful for my perma ban 😅 so far it seems less explosive arguments on here and just slower so less opportunities to get into those kinds of time wasting, frustrating reddit back and forths.

I still use my banned account cos I can still sub/browse/save just can’t comment, which is great. I’m fond of simply clicking off arguments and never thinking about them again too though.

we have a tendency to think that facts in themselves are persuasive, they aren’t

or that if you show the logic they will be convinced, they won’t

Conservatives know that people don’t think and just accept what they are told if you have their trust or respect and if you tell them it’s for a good cause. Maybe give a supporting fact, which may or may not true.

The belief that people can be convinced by facts and logic is the greatest failing in all moderate left leaning political parties and is a belief that is ironically not supported by reality.

I guess my persistant belief that facts and logic can persuade people is a case in point - no matter how often I am shown it doesn’t actually work the belief persists!

I think the belief comes from respect, you respect the agency of others, you would never tell them lies or try to persuade using emotion

that is not how humans are made, we are foremost social animals , so if you want to change minds you must first gain trust

Damn that’s a really interesting point actually. I tend to be fact, logic and emotionally driven lol and I really struggle to understand when people aren’t grasping the facts of a matter. I know sometimes I can get emotional so sometimes I will take all the emotion out of my stance and focus on the logic and facts - thinking that will be more understood than injecting emotions into the argument but it still doesn’t work.

Disclosure; I’m autistic so I honestly just thought this was me not being able to communicate, which maybe it sort of is, but it also seems like a flaw to not be able to accept facts as facts and to see logic? I also think online is a terrible measurement of effective communication though.

So…how do you be persuasive? The only answers I can think of by what I observe are all very cynical but possibly accurate? That it basically has to be painted as something that directly benefits the person you are trying to convince? How else can you effectively persuade someone? Genuine questions here 😅

Nah, a lot of people are more stupid than you think.

There’s also bots and trolls too.

After a few comments I just stop replying or write something along the lines of ‘okay champ, whatever you say’
