The Nakba sure did though, it’s like saying WW2 didn’t start in 1939. Like sure a shit ton of things happened that lead up to it, but ultimately there is a definitive point in which it is almost universally agreed as the start of the major parts of the occupation.

Yeah Israel has been horrendous recently and did not give an appropriate response. There are decades of history and for the most part they just take turns committing war crimes. Israel has been a victim in the past, that doesn’t justify what’s currently going on but it’s foolish to pretend that Israel has always been the bully.
