The UN humanitarian chief, Tom Fletcher, has warned that 14,000 babies could die in Gaza within the next 48 hours unless more humanitarian aid is delivered.

“I want to save as many children as possible. We need to flood the Gaza Strip with humanitarian aid. 14,000 is a really shocking number. It will be disappointing, we will stumble and we will take huge risks. But I don’t see a better idea than giving food to the children,” Fletcher told BBC Radio 4

Israel ended an 11-week blockade on aid entering Gaza on Monday, but Fletcher says only five trucks entered and the aid has not yet reached anyone.
