That is simply not true. 130kph is the recommended speed. For certain marked stretches of the Autobahn there is no speed limit and it is understood that you do not pull into the left lane without checking for fast moving cars behind you. If they find that you still would have crashed if you had been going 130kph you are unlikely to be held responsible.

She was filming a video at the time and when she woke up in the hospital days later the German police told her what had happened and she was not found to be at fault at all. The deceased person who had pulled into the left lane without checking was entirely at fault. She flew home as soon as the German doctors had done the major surgery to her legs and spine.

My mom’s entire side of the family is German and many of them still live in Germany. Talks about the Autobahn have come up at family gatherings on multiple occasions.

I am willing to admit my data might be out of date, but from a quick Google it appears to still be the same rules.

It’s about 3 times the speed limit for most highways in most places. Give or take.

The stopping distance at those speeds is 500+ meters.

Even with the best tires, brakes and driver that’s several football fields end to end before that car comes to a stop. If anything happens at those speeds it is unlikely the driver will be able to do anything about it in time.

There was a woman that worked for a car magazine that was doing a video on the Autobahn and someone pulled out in front of her around those speeds she instantly killed everyone on the vehicle she hit and she was left permanently injured and barely able to walk. She wasn’t even at fault in that situation either. It’s the job of the people pulling into the fast lane to check for fast moving cars and for whatever reason they didn’t.

You friend is playing a dangerous game with more than their own life.

The smell/taste senses are very closely related and cross paths in the brain somewhat.

If you ever want to freak yourself out plug your nose while you eat some of your favorite foods and only exhale slowly while chewing. It’ll taste all sorts of weird.

My guess is the smell outside is interfering with what your brain is used to from the smell inside while drinking tea.

I have a base amount of trust/distrust I assign to everyone. Some people go up in trust and some people go down, but nobody is completely trustworthy. Even my parents have lied to me and hurt me in the past. I love them and trust them more than most people but I still know they are absolutely capable of betraying me.

I mean you are making sense. I still don’t see the issue with keeping a little bit in reserve for those potentialities.

How? Anyone you know could betray you at any moment for various reasons. Simply because it’s unlikely doesn’t mean it’s impossible.

Unfortunately if I’m going over a cliff it’s a solo adventure and I don’t plan on coming back up.

I don’t think it’s wise to ever trust another person 100%. You should be aware that anyone could turn on you in the correct situation with the correct pressures.

Let’s just promise that if either one of us figures out a solution to our trust issues we let the other one know the secret.

In a weird way I’m glad to hear there are other people with the same predicament I have. Until you nobody has ever really seemed to understand what I’m talking about. So while it still sucks at least I know I’m not the only person who has been unable to cross that line.

Just general melancholy.

I have had severe trust issues my entire life which has led me to being very alone. I have gone to many many many therapists and not a single one has ever been able to tell me something I don’t already know.

I know why I got this way. I know how it manifests. I understand where it infects my relationships and how it effects others.

No matter what I do I cannot fully let anyone in. Obviously I trust people to varying degrees in my life, but even those closest to me (Mother/Father) I do not trust implicitly.

People say things like “you just have to trust people again” which feels akin to telling depressed people to “just be happy” again.

Every time someone gets close to me I lock down and keep them at arms length. I was explaining it to one of my exes recently. She is probably someone I trust the most and I told her it’s like doing a bellyflop. I am all aboard the trust train and then right before impact I flinch involuntarily. I can’t stop myself. No matter how hard I try I just cannot relinquish control and I end up stopping people short.

Another analogy I have used is that there is a wall. Everyone I have ever met or known is outside the wall. Including me. I don’t even trust myself entirely. Some people are allowed closer to the wall. Very few people can even lean up against that wall but nobody has been allowed over that wall as long as I can remember.

Anyways I once again hurt someone recently because of my inability to trust and I felt really bad about it. I have a lot of self hatred and anger directed at myself because of it.

What’s confusing to me is that I am actually an unbelievably open book with anyone. Anyone can ask me any question about anything in my life and I will answer it honestly if they want me to. I can’t get this book any more open… And yet I can’t trust anyone fully.

So I’m 32 now and I haven’t had a serious relationship since before covid. I have had a few dates and FWB situations since then, but they always get emotionally attached and I end up having to end things because I know that path leads nowhere and I don’t want them wasting their time and energy on a guy that’s never going to let them in.

I’m feeling a little better about everything today than yesterday but still pretty shitty today. Just trying not to eat away my sadness like I want to.

1. Because the people protesting represent in the single digit percentages of the voter base of America. An extremely vocal minority, but still a minority of Americans.

2. Boy who cried wolf situation. Protesting every single thing endlessly for years on end has made the average person stop caring about whatever you’re protesting about. Not saying it’s right but that is how many people view continual protesting.

3. The far left protests lost most of their corporate backing this time around. As soon as the bean counters up top realized that pandering to the social stuff on the left wasn’t going to net them record profits they all dropped supporting the issues like a bad habit. They saw the popular vote change and they all dropped their masks immediately. Remember this in 10 years when the balance swings back again and you see target suddenly pretending to give a shit about gay right again or whatever it is at that time. They only ever cared about money.

4. Lack of unified direction of protests. There are tons of local and small group protests as many people have linked in the comments, but outside of these small tight-knit online communities planning these things the general public has absolutely no clue any of them are happening. There isn’t a single unifying “thing” to rally around like the BLM protests had with George Floyd. When the angry mob can’t direct their anger all in the same direction it loses power.

5. Since modern media runs on outrage (clicks) and they have seen that most people don’t care anymore they have moved onto other things in order to generate the clicks they want to make the money for the big guy.
