The thing that I appreciated most about Lemmy and my transition from Reddit is how cordial everyone has been. Even if a comment is taken out of context, people tend not to jump down each others throat and assume the worst, or make bad faith arguments full of fallacies. I’ve had legitimate back and forths with people, something that basically never happens on Reddit.
I agree with this. It’s cash. If I handed it in and the police called and told me they found the rightful owner I’m not sure I’d even believe them. Let the girl keep it!
Reddit is definitely not the final evolution of the internet board. It goes without saying that we can do better. And when a better iteration comes along nobody will even need to ask the Reddit users to switch as theyll naturally migrate like we always have. And then eventually that thing will be decrowned for something better too
It’s been a long time since I tried, but I tried to install Atkinson Hyperlegible on my android and it wasn’t possible without rooting the phone. Your manufacturer may have a way to add fonts, but for Samsung I was limited to downloading them through their Galaxy store, which had no fonts I wanted
Oh hell yeah I use Atkinson Hyperlegible everywhere. There is also Atkinson Monolegible for a monospaced font so you arent stuck using Consolas

Surely it’s less work to maintain security patches for a few prior versions of windows than it is to indefinitely maintain backwards compatibility
The full Microsoft XP source code was leaked and is available for anyone on GitHub; not the same, I know, but it’s atleast NT based. I’ve just always wondered why a community never formed to fork it
Fwiw I’m new to Linux and went with KDE (using X11) and it seems totally buggy as shit. I love it though. I don’t even wanna try the other desktop environments
I’m going to go against the grain here and recommend that you NOT use Mint. I’ve been using a linux for a month now, so I’m new to it like you.
My first time trying Linux was Mint, and I didn’t like it at all. There was too much crap downloaded on it, and it abstracted the underlying systems too much, so I found it all very confusing. I suggest that you download a distro that Mint is based on, and then install the actual stuff you want on it.
Mint is based on Ubuntu, which is based on Debian. I decided to go with Debian as a total noob and it makes waaay more sense to me this time around. I enjoy customizing it to my liking rather than Mint doing it all for me—often in ways I don’t like.
So I accidentally disabled the UserJS toggle, and now I can’t interact with the UI at all to re-enable it. Any ideas how I can fix that in the configuration files?
Man I miss my Sony Ericsson. Phones used to be unique
I can’t entirely recall the precise details now, but I was trying to uninstall Nvidia and Mesa packages to fix some driver issues. Some mesa-related packages were remaining, and I couldn’t figure out why, so I manually typed their names in and purged them, then proceeded to watch python, the desktop environment — everything — all uninstall haha.
I will never forgive Microsoft for just straight up deleting everyone’s (mine) MineCraft purchases and accounts, and then having the gall to tell us to buy it again. It’s still in my Microsoft Store purchase history, for Christ’s sake.
I’d sooner buy Skyrim 4 more times than buy back what was stolen from me.
Through the release of the first iPhone to the mid 2010s I’d wager that most consumers agreed that iPhones were superior to Android by most metrics: they featured more support across the board, had more apps, looked nicer, and were considered the premium. Apple pioneered the modern smartphone and had a headstart in getting users hooked into their ecosystem. Nowhere was this more pronounced than in the wealthiest country in the world (and Apple’s home country).
That’s a huge generalization but I think it resonates true to a degree. Also, anecdotally, I remember that all my school computers were Macs when growing up. I’m sure Apple seeped its tendrils into people’s lives a variety of ways. It’s not a cake walk for most people to switch ecosystems. As a lifelong Windows user I’ll have a panic attack if you asked me to print a document on a Mac; I’m sure its the same vice versa lol
Seems intelligent and I’ve enjoyed some of his videos. I don’t know much about him other than he’s a bit… intense? and he’s sparked controversy with some people. I looove the FUTO keyboard app he’s associated with. It’s the best TTS keyboard I’ve found, and I refuse to use the Google/Samsung/etc equivalents
www.lemm.ee has been the only place I’ve enjoyed using lemmy
