U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin are set to meet in Alaska on Aug. 15 to discuss a peace plan for Ukraine — most likely without Ukraine’s participation.
Trump announced the meeting on Aug. 8, saying the talks could involve some “swapping” of territories.

It’s mostly a ploy for Trump to manufacture a good reason to get the US out of supporting Ukraine. He’s looking for a way to reduce the backlash to a minimal level. Same plan as the last time when Zelensky was at the white house.
Other countries taking it seriously doesn’t matter too much to Trump here.
