I don’t think Putin is bad at something he’s not even tried. For him, meeting Trump was an opportunity to delay any additional sanctions and support for Ukraine, and to stroke his ego since the ICC issued the arrest warrant. Walking freely on US soil, treated like a president rather than the murderous and ostracized dictator that he is, must have felt great. The same is true for his visit to China.
The US is not part of the ICC.
That doesn’t really take away from the point. Every opportunity for him to be in a Western country again brings him closer to that feeling of respect he used to have. It’s instrumental for a dictator.
Only strategy is to wait until he’s on his knees.
Exactly. As long as you can keep fighting and bleeding the russian war machine - that’s probably the ONLY shot at a lasting peace.
