Did a little check and it seems 5K shells per day is like the minimum required amount for like 700 Howitzers. That ammounts to 1,8 M per year. They could end up needing 4 times that number depending the situation.
Ukraine also makes some of their own shells which wouldn’t count as eu (not yet, here is hoping for the future). often not nato standard but better than nothing.
Yes they started that, as well as their own Howitzers.
