We aren’t seeing a change in heart from Trump, we are seeing Trump’s true position become untenable with US voters.
This is a vital context an analysis of Ukraine-US relations has to account for.
This is a perfect example of just how stupid polling is, in the US. What the fuck kind of questions are these? There’s so much room for personal interpretation, that it’s almost pointless to compare the answers to each other…and yet, they do.
This is a pew research poll, there are plenty of trash biased polling organizations in the US, pew research is not one of them.
How we did this
Pew Research Center conducted this study to better understand how Americans feel about the Republican and Democratic parties. This analysis seeks to examine the public’s feelings about the behavior of party leaders, party issues and how well each of the major parties represent Americans. For this analysis, we surveyed 3,445 U.S. adults from Sept. 22 to 28, 2025. Everyone who took part in this survey is a member of the Center’s American Trends Panel (ATP), a group of people recruited through national, random sampling of residential addresses who have agreed to take surveys regularly. This kind of recruitment gives nearly all U.S. adults a chance of selection.
Interviews were conducted either online or by telephone with a live interviewer. The survey is weighted to be representative of the U.S. adult population by gender, race, ethnicity, partisan affiliation, education, presidential vote (among voters) and other factors. Pew Research being less trash than other pollsters is not the same thing as it not being trash at all.
I’m not saying the polling was biased. Only that the question they asked is vague to the point of absurdity. It’s no better than asking people if they “approve of the direction the country is headed”. That can literally mean anything to anyone. So, boiling it down to a “yes” or “no” answer, is ridiculous.
The “Yes, Republicans” and “Yes, Democrats”, are answers that do tell something, though. You can make much out of those two.
really wish republican voters would go ahead and learn what it is they’re voting for. anyone who’s paid any degree of attention over the last 10 years has known who the 47th president is and what he thinks of the Ukrainian populace. he’s a russian asset, extorted Ukraine for political dirt on a rival’s son, and overall doesn’t care about anyone or anything and seeks only immediate gratification
Definitely, but notice even among republicans, the cold hard facts point out Trump’s position on not emphatically supporting Ukraine is extremely unpopular. MAGA is a cult and while republicans still will get in line and do as they are told make no mistake Trump’s disdain for Ukraine is a losing issue, there is no significant demographic in the US anywhere on the political spectrum that reliably wants to stab Ukraine in the back.
This changing dynamic increasingly leaves authoritarian strongmen like Trump with less space to stall and bullshit before the consequences hit the republican party like a freight train.
That neither party is way too vague for all of these options.
They could be “invade Ukraine” types or the correct option, “sink all Russian ships and blow every Russian plane out of the sky, then give Ukraine some nukes”
I see no indication in the US that there is any real “invade Ukraine”/pro-russia types, it just doesn’t make sense. I am sure there are some but hardly enough to even poll about.

If these are the questions theyre so vague as to be meaningless when assessing policy.
If you disagree with policies related to Ukraine, you may believe Ukraine should recieve more weapons from the US. You may alternatively believe they should recieve no weapons from the US. The question given doesn’t ask which it is.
Nor does it ask whether the issue of Ukraine is important enough to influence their voting choices.
