When I say normie I mean someone who doesn’t care about self-hosting doesn’t really care that much about privacy and you wouldn’t consider deep tech hobbyist.

If you did , how did you do it ? Did they stay ?

Or if someone did convert you , how did they do it ?

Do you reckon she’d have a better time with Pixelfed and Mastodon over Lemmy? Those are more similar to Instagram and Threads, I believe.

I also use Mastodon a lot. I tried Pixelfed but 90 percent of I see are still Mastodon accounts so I just follow them on Mastodon.

The right client there makes all the difference.

Ahh. Still might be worth considering though, since pixelfed and mastodon have a different crowd she might jive with better.

It’s sad but I find there’s a legit problem with sexism against women on Lemmy/Piefed. Its too often I see memes posted that are precariously bordering on boomer/incel humour

i see it a lot more often on piefed instances; it’s like the worst of reddit got turned off by the rest of the fediversse but felt that piefed is okay somehow.

it’s so bad that i had to start using the blocking feature for the first time on any of the social media platforms i’ve used since 1996.

it makes me wish that i could shake off my american addiction to bread-and-circuses so that i can be 100% happy with the instances that only have thought provoking content like the one i’m using to write this.
