US politicians are largely center right to right wing (Dem leadership and others you call “centrists”) or downright fascist and/or anarcho-capitalist (GOP).
They’re not very representative of the majority of the people, though, as shown by the policy positions of progressives being much more popular than the ones of the right wing rulers.
The UK is a pretty right-wing country, and our conservative government is probably left of your democrats. Even centrist Labour would be radical in the US, let alone a person like Jeremy Corbyn…
