“I do believe that the only viable way to respond to this tragic news is to provide more assistance, more weapons to Ukraine,” Edgars Rinkevics says, adding that “to some extent, the possibility of a better Russia, a more democratic Russia, currently lies not in Russia itself but in Ukraine.”
“I believe we still have this very wrong narrative that ‘we are going to support Ukraine as long as it takes.’ We should change it to ‘we are going to support Ukraine to victory, even with all the issues [and] problems that we now face: funding, a bit of fatigue,’” he says.
“But I think that this is a major, important message that the leaders of the free world should send: We will support Ukraine until victory.”
He’s not the first leader of a country to say this. He’s not the last leader of a country to say this.
However, victory is a difficult criteria for war. Nobody has ever won a war. It’s a losers game.
It ought ot be “We will support Ukraine until they fulfill the requirements of entering EU” , which includes not having a border dispute, which again includes not having Vladimir Putin challenging their border, which again requires Putin to not exist.
Cut to the chase.
Countries have won wars, and Ukraine will win theirs when it has it’s borders from 1991 back.
Joining the EU and NATO will guarantee dictators won’t be able to conquer parts of them again.
Arms dealers win wars.
The arms dealers aren’t participating in wars.
Not directly - that’s why they win. They make bank, without risking their own skin.
That’s also a reason I’m a little skeptical that world war 3 will truly break out. It simply isn’t as profitable, and profit is ultimately the motivation behind war. Always has been.
America absolutely and totally won the WW2.
Everybody else had to bow to the US. That’s the reason why we all are ‘living in Amerika’.
@msage @bstix The US turned up to WW II two years late. The war had already been fought by others, for two years. When they did finally, reluctantly, arrive, they were of some usefulness. The war could have been won with great difficulty without them. It could not have been won at all without the Russians.
Sure, but the aftermath was total US hegemony, uninterrupted for decades.
I will call that a global win.
@msage
Only an American who has been fed propaganda all his life would say such a silly thing!
Gold standard turned to US dollar backing?
Massive debt traps all over the world?
Doing anything, and everything to ‘stop the red scare’?
Dude… Just no.
Nobody won anything. It only kept the Nazis from making things worse “Congratulations, you’ve won a nothing that you didn’t have before.”
USA didn’t do much on the European battlefield until it was already over. Nazi Germany lost mostly because of resistance and Russian cannon fodder.

How is that not a victory for Americans?
Entire country got jobs at factories.
Almost no damage locally, while Europe got torn upside down.
Again, US dollars became the base for other countries’ currencies.
Yes, that is a massive win.
