Yes, that is what I meant when I said young.

lemmy.ml is not as nearly as bad now, lemmy.world on the other hand…
I believe OP is young and just more into philosophy than politics… ot maybe a combo of both. I know a time when I was like that, so it’s perfectly normal.
But, unfortunately, yes, there are very few individuals out there that communicate on that level.
And if that eventually happens, other problems will follow.
I kinda like it the way it is. I also use Reddit, so that kinda balances things out I guess.
Basically, a fraction of the intellectual workforce. Everyone else has to: medical professionals, carpenters, builders, civil engineers, electrical engineers, server hardware maintenance staff (in some cases, also the IT personel’s job), plumbers, clerks, social workders, barternders… there’s a lot more that need to actually show up for work.
Well, it wasn’t obvious to me.
Some people do actually need to physically be at work… in fact, it’s how most work is done. Just because some are devs/IT workers and see no need to actually show up to work, that doesn’t mean the rest of the world keeps on turning without maintenance.
Seing how most US parrents raise their children, I do believe you.
No hardware supports it out of the box (standalone players), thus, it’s not gonna happen for pirated content.
Plus, AV1 was nowhere near ready when x265 was in v2.x. It was open source, it had x in front of it (the logical successor to x264… name wise at least), it conformed fo the MPEG HEVC standard (in most things)… what was there not to like 🤷. Pirates don’t care about things like “but I have to pay royalties to use it in a commercial environment”… hence, why they’re pirates.
That just proves my theory - extreme leftists are not that far from extreme right winged groups.
Mhm, me as well.
They all suck dude, they all collect data. It’s just a matter of preference who you give your data to. Or you could live in the stone age and not give any data away, your choice 🤷. (My point is, even Lemmy collects some data, undoubtedly).
Yeah, I’ve also found their comments confusing… I just ignore them now.
You’re forgetting about hexbear.
They matter in that particular post. Other than that, no, they don’t.
And if you do, you better run!
Meeh, nothing new, service menus with the full picture have been around for decades. Just download a warezed service manual for your product and you can fix it yourself.
Same thing is happening with printers and every other piece of hardware out there that runs any kind of software on it.
We’ve seen this behavior throught history numerous time, keeping it in the family I mean, this is nothing new. As long as people keep bying food in McDonalds and complaining how McDonalds made their son/daughter cry, they’ll keep pushing their shitty products. My son starts crying over no ice cream… son, I’m sorry, but even the king doesn’t eat something that’s not available, get used to it, that’s life.
Beehaw… they’re practically a separate platform at this point. A left oriented oriented echo chaimber if you will.
To be honest, I just love reusing old stuff and giving it new meaning ☺️. And fixing stuff too. Sure, they will eventually be worthless, but I try and extend their life as much as possible ☺️.
Regarding the movies thing, each to his own 🤷 😉. I don’t judge. Hell, even I sonetimes download 1080p and watch that on my TV, but it’s mostly a special case scenario, like some good movie I’ve wanted to watch for a long time, but never got around to it, or something like.
Meeh, doesn’t really bother me 🤷. I usually just use the default settings in whatever DE in Linux (I usually use xfce, but I’ve switched when I felt like it, if I’m getting bored and wanna try something new 😂), or change a few font sizes here and there and all is good 🤷. Regarding Windows (I dual boot), I don’t really care that much to be honest, I rarely use it the past few years. I only use it for work and only when I have to do some things from home or when I need to use some obscure piece of software that just doesn’t work in Wine.
So… no, I don’t really see a reason to buy a bigger monitor. Actually, I haven’t bought a monitor for ages, like probably 20 years 😂, all of the ones I currently use are salvaged from one person or another - they wanna trade up, they give me their old monitor 😂. I don’t complain, they’re still usable for me 🤷.
I just mind that memes get deleted for no apprent reason… sometimes they give a reson, most of the time, they don’t. I mean, come on, it’s a joke…
But whatever. If people here are happy with what they get out of stricter moderation, hey, who am I to judge.
