I wish I still had my old computers. I really miss my 98 machine with an 8mb 3D Rage Pro. I used that until 2005. Ive been buying some WinXP era stuff recently, since it seems to be in the sweet spot for buying right now. I got a pair of quad core Xeons for $10! Ive got 32gb of DDR2 for $35. The GTX 980ti wasn’t super cheap, but thats a card you maybe still could use today. This is going to be the bitchin’-est XP machine. Im excited.

Nah. It’s fine. I ended up taking an extra year to get my BSME. Nobody has ever once questioned that on my resume. Luckily, a few of my friends continued on to graduate studies, so I still knew a few people that last year.
For a long time, I thought it was Fedora Core 4. I did use that, but I recently found my old burned CDs of Mandrake 8.1. That really took me back. I might install it on a VM for some nostalgia.

Hulu uses what I’m pretty sure was the ending credit song in the intro. Probably to avoid Teardrop royalties or something. I hate it so much, I didn’t finish the series last time I tried to watch it.
Tried it November of 2024, ended up switching to Mint with Cinnamon, zero issues since.

I figured something out. Used Sunshine/Moonlight to basically VPN in while it’s in 1920x1080 and changed it to 1280x1024. Now, it remembers that’s the resolution when that’s the only monitor.

I’ll definitely check out OPL-PC-Tools, thanks! HDL Batch Installer just hangs on open, checking for updates. I have been running Mint since November. I can’t get OPL manager to launch at all. Regular Wine, Proton, nothing. I’ve tried brand new prefixes with fresh .NET runtime, it just refuses to start.
The ONLY thing I still apparently need Windows for is running OPL Manager and HDL Batch Installer for my Playstation 2 hard drives. Can anyone point me in a direction of Linux alternatives? I managed to get WinHiip running in Wine, but it can’t see the PS2 HDD from Wine. Pretty sure I need something that runs native, and for the life of me I cannot find anything. Which is really surprising to me.

I sooo wanted to rewatch that. But I just cannot get past the special effects these days. I thought it was great when it was on, now it’s unwatchable for me. It’s like, Playstation 1 cutscenes: the show.
I don’t know. I live a good female lead. Ripley, Furiosa, Marge Gunderson. There’s so many, that’s just the first three that come to mind. Half the time when I’m playing Fallout, it’s female characters.
There are definitely bad female leads in things, too. Just like there are bad male leads. Like, Borderlands 3, basically unplayable. I never finished it. And I really want to be clear, the characters aren’t bad because they are women, they are bad due to poor writing. That game had such potential, but it felt like the script was written entirely by highschoolers.
Oh, thats really cool. I never had any pre-pentium stuff. I used an Apple ][ in school, and I remember playing Oregon Trail on 5.25 floppies, on a beautiful green monochrome monitor. But my first computer at home was a Pentium 133. It was a Compaq LTE 5300, with the docking bay, the CD drive, extra batteries, all the fixings. I loved that thing.
