Futo is open source. It’s not FOSS though.

The positive aspects are that it’s highly customizable and supports a large number of language addons. The downside is that development is pretty much dead, the swipe feature not being very accurate and the autocorrect only working in English. There’s also a large amount of inconveniences and minor bugs that made it tedious to use in comparison to Futo.
I used AnySoft Keyboard until someone recommended Futo here on Lemmy. It’s been my daily driver for a couple of months now and I have to agree: It’s the best Open Source keyboard around, even if it’s technically still in alpha. It’s ridiculously good, even with languages other than English. It will nail German 20-character compound words first try and I haven’t seen any other keyboard do it this well.
Meanwhile the center console has multiple blank place holders where physical buttons could be installed, and my car has all the options
I hate this trend so much. Even modern “luxury” vehicles have these blank spaces like they are some economy car from the 90s. God forbid they’d have to spend a few bucks extra for panels that match the actual options.
the car is a heavily modified Peel P50,
Shit, you got me.
It’s hit or miss. There are cars that are look tiny on the outside but provide enough room even for people taller than me. Then there are large ones that seemingly offer enough space, but have things like backrests that are too short or have steering wheels that are too low.
The backrests are honestly the biggest problem, because they are shaped for the average person’s back. When you’re too tall, they put pressure on the wrong spots and cause back pain after a few hours. The tricky thing is that it’s not immediately noticeable on a test drive, so you might be stuck with it after making the purchase.
Most cars that I’ve fit in were ones where you’re driving in a sort of reclined position, because you can counter the short backrest by sliding down in the seat a little. Or 80s limos with a sofa-like feel.
Yeah, it’s the electronic stability control.
It’s a 2012 Lexus IS 250 C
Yeah, the earlier ones have a toggle switch on the side of the dash that apparently takes a bit to get used to. The non-adjustable steering wheel is pretty huge in all the models, so that will most likely be the limiting factor. But you’re right, I should probably find one to try sitting in before I intensify my search. Thanks for the heads up!
There’s no way you just mentioned the Citroen BX. Crazy coincidence. I’ve actually been looking to buy one for a couple of months (the early model with the cool instrument panel) but I’ve never actually sat in one. And I’m just now finding out that it’s too small??
Thanks, that’s nice of you to say! This one is fortunately not mine, it belongs to someone in my family and I just drive it occasionally. In my own car the seat goes so far back that I can barely touch the pedals even with outstretched legs. And there are no annoying buttons to be pressed by accident :D
Tall gang 🤝
But to be fair, I’ve driven plenty of compact cars that were very comfortable and fitting for my size.
Where’d you get this footage of me??
The steering column only moves in position when I turn the ignition on. Getting in is fine, just a bit of a squeeze.
Also, why is the a button for electro-convulsive therapy (aka shock treatment)?
It’s strategically placed right next to the ESP so that the car gives you a 15.000 volt shock anytime you turn it off.
I’m 6’7 lol
I’m aware, but I’m very tall and the seat does not go any lower or back far enough for me.
From what I’ve seen, they cost around 1-2k Dollars for 40 kms, probably cheaper if you buy in bulk. A single spool of 125 µm fiber weighs around 3 kg but half of that is probably the spool itself.
I love Hans Zimmer but after what he did to my car
I thought this comment was about to go in a very different direction
Imagine getting butt dialed by Kim Jong Un
