Not sure of the reliability, but this article gives some good indicators about just how capable the Gripen is. In close-range dogfighting I’m not sure anyone really knows who’d come out on top, but in controlled environments the Gripen seems to perform impressively well.

Difference being that unlike sexual orientation, desire to have children is something that can be affected quite a lot by just situational circumstances. I’m glad to hear that it worked out well for you, but there are plenty of people who have either wanted or not wanted children when young who have ended up changing their minds, to my knowledge there’s never been an instance of anyone changing their sexual orientation.

Properly used condoms are incredibly effective at preventing pregnancies and have the additional advantage of reducing the spread or STDs, there’s no need to take an irreversible decision quite yet.

I think the idea is that if the infrastructure for hydrogen fuel exists and using fossil fuels is penalized, there’s an incentive to start producing more of it via electricity by, as an example, using excess power produced by renewable energy sources when demand is low, balancing the grid and leveling out electricity price fluctuations at the same time.

This relies on a lot of technical, economical, and political ifs though. The end goal is desirable but it’s not clear if there’s a feasible path there, considering the physical properties of hydrogen alone.

I think Biden still believes that things can swing back in the midterms or next presidential election. I don’t think he realizes that this might have been the last election that was possible to win.

If he does something drastic, he’d probably hand even more popular support to the Republicans in general and to Trump in particular who would play victims as much as they could.

If he does nothing, it might be the end of democracy, not just in the US but in most of the world. But he will have “accepted defeat gracefully” and considering he won’t live to see the worst of it, I imagine that’s all that matters.

The problem is that the previous accumulation of capital has centralized a lot of power in actors who have a financial incentive to stop renewables. If we could hit a big reset on everything then yes, I think renewables would win, but we’re dealing with a lot of very rich, very powerful people who really want us to keep being dependent on them.

I think most western governments aren’t totalitarian dictatorships that are willing to burn through public funds in order to gain geopolitical advantages over their adversaries.

Do note that if China gains a market advantage, the price will likely go up to reflect the real cost of production.

I think the tariffs are because the Chinese government seems to be pumping money into the electric car industry so they can keep prices artificially low and corner the market, then use their market position to extort other countries into giving in to their totalitarian politics. The more dependence we have on China, the more power the CCP wields internationally.

The Russians have been conducting absolutely horrifying crimes against humanity since the start of the war and, in fact, at least since World War 2. There is so much rape and torture embedded in the way that the Russian military operates that killing civilians, which is unconscionable and horrifying, is the least of their crimes.

The Russians could leave Ukraine today and the war would be over. Full stop. There is no justification for anything else.

Not if he wins. If he wins, it could very well be the end of democracy not just in the US but also in countries that are unlucky enough to border Russia or China. Would probably embolden the slide towards fascism in India as well.

That’s without even mentioning the irreversible damage that would be caused to the climate.

I think the exact opposite, ML is good for automating away the trivial, repetitive tasks that take time away from development but they have a harder time with making a coherent, maintainable architecture of interconnected modules.

It is also good for data analysis, for example when the dynamics of a system are complex but you have a lot of data. In that context, the algorithm doesn’t have to infer a model that matches reality completely, just one that is close enough for the region of interest.

The rhetoric isn’t misleading. When voter turnout is low, ergo the total number of votes for Republicans and Democrats are low, Republicans fare better. The US uses a first-past-the-post system of voting which devolves into a two-party system. This means that voting for a third party removes votes from the total number of ballots cast for one of the two actual candidate parties, which means fewer votes for Republicans and Democrats, which usually benefits Republicans far more than Democrats.

All this to say that when you vote for a third party, Trump is more positively impacted than Biden, so you’re effectively increasing Trump’s chance of winning.
