When I was a kid our car had only lap belts, and even those were optional. In the early ‘70s they had the attitude of building street tanks and that mass = safety. Doesn’t matter that the humans inside got tossed around like a hackey sack or to get an aortic dissection when hitting the steering wheel. It wasn’t until the last year of the ‘60’s that a collapsible steering column started being more common. By the late ‘70s they were starting to engineer for actual safety of the occupant. It wasn’t great at all by today’s standards, things like airbags didn’t really show up until the ‘80s, much less all the side curtain ones that are more common today.

Anyway, a modern vehicle is way better safety-wise, the debate would have to be about the speed of collision and the mass of the old car. Even though modern cars are safer, g-forces can be severe and no telling how the old car would crumple.

Out of curiosity, what did this person say in particular that attracted attention vs the thousands of others criticizing ICE?

I’ve tried all those tricks to peel the eggs via ice water baths and all that.

None of it worked consistently.

What did work best was cheap, white eggs. The kind you get at Aldi for like $2.

Not the free range, brown, cage free stuff. Those always have issues with sticking shells.

It’s not about the age gap. They’re adults. The same rules apply to any relationship. If nobody’s being manipulated, abused, taken advantage of or harmed, then people need to mind their own business.

I’d refine that slightly - tax loans on anything except those for a primary residence, and loans used to create businesses that employ less than 100 people, or any business in service of the loan recipient. I’m sure that could be refined quite a bit. The intent being that they can buy a primary residence like anyone else and not be taxed on it - restrictions would apply like they’d actually have to live there, not sell it for “x” years and not build another primary residence for “x” years or then be taxed on it. The businesses would have to be big enough to be useful, not a business of rich guy’s 2 buddies that would just use the “fake” business to throw venture capital back in the rich guy’s business, or the rich guy buy a yacht and the “business” be him paying his own crew through a shell company to drive him around in his own yacht.

The issue is when people are so self-absorbed they treat everyone like idiots, so the “stare” becomes a default.

An argument could be made that the safety we’ve enjoyed has allowed stupid people to act like destructive assholes without fear of consequences. Things like being anti-vax, pro-theocratic, and anti-education come to mind.

Small government meant, as usual, the other guys.

Their government can piss away as much money and get as big and invasive as they want.
