Jesus Christ. Enshittification because of “AI” is getting out of hand.
If this isn’t happening in other search engines, then DDG is likely doing it, which would be awful as it neuters the point of showing snippets for search results.
EDIT: I just tried on DDG, and I’m not seeing that summary result, even when I enable AI features. It’s entirely possible that DDG (or reddit) is A/B testing this as a future feature. You should have an option of “leaving feedback” in the three dot menu beside that search result.
How does this compare to “Speech Notes” (on Linux)?
Arch (and derivative) systems can install it through the AUR
Once installed, does it run as an application? I’m using Aurora, but it has DistroBox, and I’m almost certain that I’m able to get Arch programs installed through it.
Not currently available to download according to the official page:
“As of right now, Plasma Bigscreen isn’t available for public use yet. This is due to not being developed for so long. The project has been revived, but it might take a while until it becomes stable and is available for public use.”
That said, if this could run on top of the standard linux OS on my MiniPC (like Steam Big Picture), then I’d give it a go!
And I will still continue to point out that places which have the most traffic congestion, like highways, also do NOT have bike lanes in them.
Strange how that happens, eh?
You’d think that without bike lanes, 18 lanes for cars, no pedestrians “jaywalking”, no stop signs or stop lights, “go as fast as you want” speed limits, and no speed bumps that you’d NEVER see congestion. But then reality kicks you in the balls.
EDIT: It’s actually hilarious the level of stupidity that carbrains have.
Here’s a map of boston’s cycling infrastructure:
And here’s a current snapshop of their traffic:
Notice how there’s only heavy traffic on roads without cycling infrastructure? Fucking morons.
I have never encountered a water bottle getting chipped or leaving shavings.
I’ve heard of people complain that steel bottles that use steel tops “scrape” together when you are using the lids, and that can cause metal particles to shed into the water.
That’s one of the reasons why most steel bottles have plastic lids.
So it acts like an adult child with deeply anti-humanist traits? What could go wrong?
Interesting, it’s slightly slower for me through the web interface both with a direct connect to my network, or when proxied through the internet. Still, we’re talking seconds here, and the results are so accurate!
Immich has effectively replaced the (expensive) Windows software Excire Foto, which I was using for on-device contextual search because Synology Photos search just sucks. Excire isn’t ideal to run from Linux because it has to be done through a VM, so I’m happy to self-host Immich and be able to use it even while out of the house.
OK, indexing finished some time yesterday and I ran a few searches like:
“Child wearing glasses indoors”
“Cars with no wheels”
“Woman riding a bike”
Results come up (immich on android) in three seconds.
But the quality of the results do appear to be considerably better with ViT-B-16-SigLIP2__webli compared to the default model.
I’m pretty happy. 👍
Search speed was never an issue before, and neither was quality. My biggest gripe is not being able to sort search by date! If I had that, it would be perfect.
But I’ll update you once it’s done (at 97,000 to go… )
You’d be permanently destroying that land, and any waterways in the area, so is that really a solution?
And if the land isn’t already fertile, you need to set up alternative land to grow the food for those cows… then import the water…
This is not sustainable, and should be discouraged.
I decided on the ViT-B-16-SigLIP2__webli model, so switched to that last night. I also needed to update my server to the latest version of Immich, so a new smart search job was run late last night.
Out of 140,000+ photos/videos, it’s down to 104,000 and I have it set to 6 concurrent tasks.
I don’t mind it processing for 24h. I believe when I first set immich up, the smart search took many days. I’m still able to use the app and website to navigate and search without any delays.
That’s like saying “it’s more ethical if Nazis killed only adults, because they take up more space than kids in a gas chamber.”
The needless suffering and killing of any animal is horrifically unethical, and if we can, we should actively stop participating in it.
There are a ton of mental gymnastics used to justify the consumption of animals. Almost none apply to modern civilization.
You can never make animal production green. The amount of clear-cutting needed for beef as an example would blow your mind. Then you factor in the ground, air, and water pollution from these factory farms, and you’ve just fucked up into entire regions, just to sustain a food source that isn’t even needed.
Seemed to be the most popular. LOL The smart search job hasn’t been running for long, so I’ll check that other one out and see how it compares. If it looks better, I can easily use that.
Running now.
That’s a Celeron right?
Yup, the Intel J4125 Celeron 4-Core CPU, 2.0-2.7Ghz.
I switched to the ViT-SO400M-16-SigLIP2-384__webli model, same as what you use. I don’t worry about processing time, but it looks like a more capable model, and I really only use immich for contextual search anyway, so that might be a nice upgrade.
Is this something that would be recommended if self-hosting off a Synology 920+ NAS?
My NAS does have extra ram to spare because I upgraded it, and has NVME cache 🤗
Wipe your ass with that.
As demonstrated in Montreal, Toronto, Paris (France), Netherlands (pick any city), Berlin, San Francisco, and every other place that takes transportation seriously, you have to degrow car-centric infrastructure to build people moving infrastructure, including bike lanes.
The growing urban population needs to find more sustainable ways to get around, because you can never satisfy car-centric infrastructure. “One more lane, bro” isn’t an actual solution to anything.
It’s one of the view cloud storage options that have an official tutorial to get it working: https://community.hetzner.com/tutorials/synology-hyperbackup-to-storagebox
Some other options I’ve come across don’t support webdav, rsync, or anything else that might make life easier. LOL
