  • Macaron has a worse effect than LePen.

He got elected by pretending to be center-left. Even now, people consider that he’s a moderate right. He hires full-on far right extremists that lead a party of nazis, and passes them as moderate. He plays the card of the enlightened centrist to make it seem like the far right is a better alternative than the moderate left.

He is doing something that Le Pen couldn’t ever do: make the far right look like a reasonable, moderate party, while completely discrediting the left in its entirety.

Macron is paving the way for something much worse than Trump.

  • Yeah no. France is going head first into fascism, Macron is doing a very good job continuing the work of Napoleon and De Gaulle at destroying whatever “protocols” still protect democracy, while at the same time making the nazis look like moderate right, and the moderate left look like horrible far-left extremists antisemitic communists.

What is happening is a repeated act of Macron to show that he can do whatever he wants as “the boss” (and just that is enough into fascism to be considered closer to a form of dictatorship than a democracy), and people are getting used to it.

France has been considered by the International Federation for Human Rights, Human Rights League and World Organisation Against Torture to be dropping out of democracy since 2017.

This is not a hiccup, this is a collapse. France is on its way to be a fully fledged fascist country, and it probably is too late to stop it nonviolently.

  • Your whole logic is based on the idea that being able to do something means understanding that thing. This is simply wrong.

Humans feel emotions, yet they don’t understand them. A calculator makes calculations, but no one would say that it understands math. People blink and breathe and hear, without any understanding of it.

The concept of understanding implies some form of meta-knowledge about the subject. Understanding math is more than using math, it’s about understanding what you’re doing and doing it out of intention. All of those things are absent in an AI, neural net or not. They cannot “see the world” because they need to be programmed specifically for a task to be able to do it; they are unable to actually grow out of their programming, which is what understanding would ultimately cause. They simply absorb data and spit it back out after doing some processing, and the fact that an AI can be made to produce completely incompatible results shows that there is nothing behind it.
