  • My experience with a clinically diagnosed narcissist, which is very rare considering, was with an ex I spent/wasted seven years of my life with, and subtly different from what you said. She saw everyone else as superior but unjustly so. Everyone that wasn’t serving her interests was an enemy. The insecurities of feeling inferior to everybody manifested in a projection of superiority but under it all it was just a mask to protect her fragile ego. She would do anything and everything, in the moment of her current environment to get what she wanted. She only cared about anyone in so much as they validated her desire of inflated self worth, her own children included. There was a sliver of hope after a year of therapy but as real as the temporary empathetic soul briefly emerged all it took was a light switch moment and suddenly, like a light switch, that just became another momentary blip to then be used as an additional tool in her toolbox to socially destroy anyone that wronged her. Even after grey rocking her for over two years, following our seven year relationship, did I start getting left alone (luckily her kids weren’t mine, still feel for them but they are taking a master class in manipulation and strategic mood swings). I’m sure she got distracted with her next victim and I no longer fed her need for control and ego building enough so she lost focus but it was the most miserable decade of my forty odd years on this earth. I love her, or who I thought she was anyway, it still hurts thinking back but it was never really her, who I thought she was didn’t exist.

  • Yeah and I’ve worked for a company that stupidly put their vpn service on 192.168.1.0/24 so most peoples home network would act weird as hell whenever they connect to the work vpn. That’s a poor implementation and shouldn’t be done. Address conflicts are certainly annoying especially when it’s a black box but that’s not a reason to shoehorn everything over to IPv6. I can’t imagine a scenario ever existing that I would have any desire for everything in my house to be uniquely reachable to the world. I have a point of presence to the internet behind my Palo Alto, what I do inside there is incredibly simple with IPv4 and interoperates seamlessly with IPv6. This idea that everything needs to be raw dogging the internet, especially with the current state, or lack of, information security makes no sense to me. Talking about IPv6 not being fully implemented as some sort of critique is ignorant, shows a complete lack of use case analysis, usually erodes away after someone spends a year or so in the real world, and isn’t the gotcha folks seem to think it is.

  • They both have use cases and are interoperable. I don’t see why folks think it’s so odd that they are both used and will likely continue to be used. It’s hardly even a topic worth talking about. Seems like one of those things people hear about being around for a long time as an updated standard and it’s some kind of gotcha that not everything uses it…What driver do these people imagine exists to not use IPv4, the addressing limit was solved before IPv6 even hit the street and has only matured and integrated with IPv6 since.

  • I understand the bitching and they are certainly stupid. I get defensive about it a bit because not everybody has the head on their shoulders to separate things, read the online discourse, and screw themselves over. Everyone knows it’s stupid, just play the damn game. I don’t want some junior inexperienced person setup for failure because they got themselves a hot head is all. Appreciate the clarification.

  • That person is an idiot without any actual real world experience. Good on you for sharing useful information. I’ve had colleagues and employees like him lose their job before even being hooked up because of their shit attitude and my advice to folks boils down to the same. Be respectful, be transparent, even if embarrassing (there is nothing they haven’t heard before), and just give your “yes”, “no”. Best case you don’t see them again for 3-5 years, worst case it’s inconclusive and they will run it again a couple times and you will be more used to what’s expected. Go in with a shit attitude with your head up your ass and nobody is feeling bad that you pissed away a salary/job security perk and will never think about you again after a weeks time as they press on checking the box and taking care of themselves.

  • My only windows machine is my work laptop with windows 11 docked to three monitors. The other three are mint, endeavor, and qubes hosting several systems. I prefer Linux but the performance of the work laptop has never been an issue even if I don’t like it. I can reboot, connect to the vpn, have word relaunched to a recovered copy, and be back in a teams meeting with outlook open and Jira up in 5 minutes or less. I have to do it once or twice a month because something stupid stops working while I’m in a meeting. These 15 minute reboots, make coffee between, and other similar commentary comes across as wishcasting. There’s plenty of reasons windows sucks. My company has all kinds of stupid agents installed on it that negatively impacts performance also. McAfee was the worst, I’m glad they got rid of that but that wasn’t a windows problem either.

  • I don’t understand why this is such a big deal for anyone. With all the UI utilities available it would be incredibly easy to have a setting to interpret 5 consecutive spaces as a tab or a tab as 5 consecutive spaces and just let whoever prefers what to choose how they are going to interface with the code. Hell, you could even make it so 5 is the default and have custom consecutive values as an advanced option in the interpreter for edge cases. So many incredibly more challenging issues have been resolved in IDEs, I just don’t get it.

  • I sent someone a screenshot and they asked what wefwef was because it showed the name in the top left of the screen shot as like a ‘go back to your last app’ link. Turned into a short painful discussion that I was happy to be over. Sometimes I think people are purposefully obtuse though and it reminded me why I don’t talk about technology with most everybody I know IRL.

  • The last clothing I purchased was two packs of white socks and some boxer briefs this past year. Outside of that all my clothing is a decade or more old. I’m in my mid forties and still have three shirts from when I was in high school that I wear occasionally.

I currently need to get some new undershirts and will need more dress socks in the next year or two but for outer wear I have four pairs of Levi’s, six slacks, twelve button up shirts, three belts, three blazers, four pairs of dress shoes, two pairs of sneakers, and I think seven ties that are all 10-20+ years old and showing no wear. I can’t imagine a reason I would need to buy clothes ever again except for boxer briefs, socks, and under shirts and my last purchase of those lasted for just at 10 years with the first replacements being the new socks I bought.

  • All I have is anecdotal about the US and I only remember due to the annoyance. I’ve moved six times in the last seven years. I have swapped the direction of my dryer door every time because the side hookups were on changed every time. My dryer is currently on the left. Prior to these moves I couldn’t say with 100% certainty but if I try to picture myself in that laundry room I think my dryer was on the left but it isn’t something I paid attention to until I had to swap the dryer door hinges every time I moved since so my dryer door would open away from the washing machine.

  • I think I might have gotten into my own head with it when I first noticed what you meant when I touched my lips. I touched my genitals after and then went to my thighs. My lips and genitals I can clearly feel that they are being touched by my finger and I don’t feel it through my finger. So I started poking my thighs, chest, back, feet, etc and it kept feeling the same but I think I was pushing too hard or had the experiment in my head too much. After reading this post I can feel the difference testing my lips vs my forehead and from there I seem to weirdly be able to tell my brain is influencing wether I feel the sensation through my thigh or my finger if I do that next. If I go from my lips to my thigh I feel it in my thigh, if I go from my forehead to my thigh I feel both through my finger. It’s like my brain is screwing with me/itself because it knows what I’m doing. I bet if I was less focused on what I’m trying to experiment with that I could do it in a more decoupled way. Such a small but cool bit about myself that I had no idea was a thing. Thank you for explaining and walking me through the process.

Edit: I think I reversed the sensation direction in my first response, my only excuse is that this is kind of wild and new territory for me so I think I struggle communication the different sensations that I never even realized I was capable of until now. Your explanation and guidance was still right on though. Thank you
