Haha same here. I’m around 5’6 or 5’7 and I find depending on make, I’m either size 11 or 12 shoes. Also have pretty big hands (or long fingers at least). I’ve always thought of my hands and feet as big puppy paws that I never grew into lmao.

Not quite as bad as 20 in 2 days but basically any time I get a phone call, it’s probably safe to say that it’s someone trying to sell me something. It especially sucks when you’ve been handing out your CV and applying for jobs and shit, so you have to answer calls from unknown numbers. But if it’s anyone that I actually know, they’ll use WhatsApp.

Yeah, every time I see people saying that they like the amount of users now just makes me think “hmmm must be nice that all of your particular niches and tastes are accounted for”. It’s pretty silly to be so anti growth for this place anyway. Even on Reddit, you literally have a choice to take part in the bigger ‘default’ subs or find a smaller one if that suits you. And I like choice.

This place still has a long way to go IMO. I’m starting to resort to lurking chat / ask style communities more just for something to do around here and even there, it’s not quite as engaging or active as it should be. As a humble user, sometimes I don’t have something particular in mind that I want to see. Sometimes I just want to bed rot and scroll and read people’s stories and discussions, maybe give my two cents if I feel so inclined. And there isn’t really that here yet because once you’ve checked AskLemmy or whatever, you’ve already seen 90% of the content for the next week.

For what it’s worth, I was also blocked at a time in my saga. And might have even been the blocker once. I don’t think it’s the healthiest kind of relationship to have with someone lol. Especially with strong feelings involved. All that I can say worked in my situation was time apart and maybe a change in mindset since then too.

But I mean, sometimes people just suck too and are just bullies or bigots. And it’s admirable that you’re worried about her mental state here when you could probably still do with some healing yourself too. If it’s eating you up, I used to find that the best escape from this sort of spiralling out is to lose myself in a complicated RPG.

Ah yeah, didn’t even think of that and I even saw a post come through my feed this morning from there. I tend to associate this kind of stuff more with hippies lol but maybe that’s a good place to ask too.

I don’t think I’ve really seen any communities around here dealing with anything metaphysical or whatever. Or this kind of spirituality.

This reminds me of an online thing that I had going with someone that started in my late teens. Even the line about not having empathy was something that I remember, which I never bought. And talking about self harm, suicide, trouble distinguishing dreams from actual events etc. That was a wild ride. I eventually found out, when everything was crashing and burning, that a lot of stories and details of stories were made up too.

Funnily enough, after years of not talking, she’s probably one of my ‘best’ and longest running friends now lol. Someone that I can talk to about anything with (literally the only person I’ve ever discussed gender identity related shit with). I wasn’t born perfect either, and put her through just as much hell, so we’ve both seen and dealt with each other at our worst and lowest, which makes a good kind of shoulder to cry on if you can make it through the other side of that.

And in her case, it was part edginess and part mental health lol. Bipolar and being a teenager that wanted to fit in with the alternative scene and be dark and morbid and shit. Which I actually get to some extent too. When I was young I used to say that I’d be part of club 27 because I thought that a cool thing to say and imagine for myself. Until someone actually pointed out how fucked up it is to go around talking like that.

Yeah it’s funny that those were called out as exceptions because as far as ancient Greek mythology goes, Disney’s Hercules (one of the most widely known takes) basically made Hades = Satan and Zeus = God. I’ve also seen Hades get treated as Satan lite in DC Comics adaptations, basically unashamedly rewriting another mythology to base it around christianity. Meanwhile, from what I’ve seen, Hades was actually one of the few semi decent gods.

The only two that I ever still make use of are XDA for custom firmwares and other Android related shit. And Pokecommunity for the ROM hacking / decompilation stuff.

Yeah, as much as I support there being women only spaces here, especially around here where it seems like the only way that women are going to be able to have any spaces here is by brute force, I am unfortunately not a woman. And I don’t want to invade or force my way in. So just to repeat, I absolutely support and respect there being communities where women can mingle with each other without asshole men popping up every five minutes to shit on them.

What I’m hoping for is that once communities like !WomensStuff@lazysoci.al are able to get a foothold and thrive and more women are actually comfortable around here, we’ll start seeing more communities that deal with things like skin and haircare and jewelry and thrifting and cool styles and shit. Because clearly most men aren’t interested or else those sorts of communities would be popping up already. So this place needs more of a woman’s touch first lol.

Not complaining or being sour or anything. I have faith that it’ll get to the point where these communities don’t need to be gendered anymore but I’ve seen the way people around here can be so I also think it’s necessary for now.

I definitely understand the aversion to algorithms because just look at what platforms like Facebook, Twitter or even Reddit these days do with them. In the wrong hands, it’s deceptive and dodgy as fuck.

But I wouldn’t be opposed to an algorithm that you can tailor yourself. And I don’t mean Bluesky style ‘tailoring’, I mean give us a list of interests and categories to toggle that then have more weight in the feed. So for example, if you like metal, you would then see more metal related stuff in your feed and not have it downed out by Taylor Swift and Kanye West because upvotes.

And something I picked up from Facebook (even though it doesn’t work for shit on Facebook because their algorithm is mentally handicapped) is being able to ‘favourite’ something. And by doing that, not just pinning it to the top of the list of communities but actually making it appear in your feed more whether the upvotes are a high amount or not.

More stuff that isn’t memes, news and politics. Like, apparently there’s two people on this whole platform watching Harley Quinn (or at least leaving a comment about it in the discussion thread). Pretty much everything that isn’t memes, news or politics is still dead around here. Except for pro wrestling somehow.

What I’m still missing from Reddit is actual discussion of the forms of entertainment that I enjoy. I even tried that thread about “what music are you listening to” that pops up in casual conversation once or twice but no one gives a fuck, not even the OP of those threads bothers going through and giving an up arrow to people that have replied. And no one interacts with any replies either, so might as well be on Facebook for that kind of ‘discussion’.

I’m also missing the haircare and skincare type subreddits. There were a lot of valuable resources and it was nice having a place for the occasional stupid questions. Also fashion / style type subreddits. I still think those would do great around here with LemmyNSFW mostly kept separate from everything else, so it would help keep the one handed browsers away. Although I still maintain that a big barrier for certain people in this regard is no posting to your own profile.

But yeah, there is lots and lots of stuff that this platform still needs. Memes, news and politics are the first things you’ll get on every platform. Now I just wish there was more than that.

It was a repeat of #MenAreTrash and a little bit of #MeToo using different words this time. And just like any other time there is an awareness campaign that highlights the general statistics and truth of things, instead of inspiring men to take a stand and push for any change or correcting of shitty, toxic behaviour; the so called loud minority rushes in to say “not all men” and defend the status quo while the so called silent majority lets them.

I used to think a future with cyborgs would be pretty cool but personally, I’m not so hot on the idea anymore. The problem is that you would be beholden to whichever corporation or government manufactures and pays for parts. And who is to say that the support for whichever product that you’ve surgically implanted will be for life, and that you won’t end up with useless landfill electronics sewed up inside of you.

Personally I think that if AI was ever made with altruistic purposes, that could fill the role of things like complex calculations and extra memory or a log. And good Augmented Reality could fill the role of interacting directly with entertainment and blocking out the outside world. And maybe one day there would be effective ways of interacting directly with computers through electrodes or even wirelessly. Although who knows how our privacy would be invaded then. There could be literal thought police in that case.

The problem is that the tech will always come from someone else. Imagine integrating this kind of tech into your life on such a deep level and then the person in charge of over seeing and maintaining this tech turns out to be an authoritarian nazi.

I haven’t seen any of the porn communities in the three non porn instances I’ve tried here personally. So out of the big ones, world seems to already de-federated at least.

Based on a couple of arguments I’ve now had, they actually sound a lot like manosphere, anti woke people. Just a bit more intelligent and well read. But even the “trans ideology” phrase that they like to use is just their version of “woke agenda”.

I think that it is a sect of feminism that has been created and seeded by the same right wing christian nationalist types that are also behind the manosphere and MAGA. The Peter Thiel and Elon Musk types. They realised in the '90s that calling everything “satanic” wasn’t working, so they started coming up with new terminology to pull people in.

First it was “SJWs”, then “woke” but it all attracts the same kind of people. And “trans ideology” was the term they came up with for women that read and aren’t completely dense. So they’re all behaving like reborn christians and going around stomping out anything the norm. But they also sincerely believe they’re right.

But honestly, based on the conversations I’ve had so far, all alt right people have the same talking points, which TERFs definitely are a part of. They’re just, as I say, not as clearly dumb as other alt right types.

I know that there’s a teenager advice community of some flavour floating around in the Blåhaj server. But I’m gonna take a guess that the only reason it’s there is because people who can’t just scroll past things were downvoting it. I have a feeling that if an instance or multiple communities for teenagers popped up, the users here would probably terrorize it until it all closed down.
