Yes, it was really crazy. In the past few decades our politicians had different goals, but generally still followed the same rules. Trump has shown he wants to dismantle any and all systems that don’t serve him, and the Republican party is happy to let him do so, so this election seems like it might have far greater consequences than the ones in memorable past.

Neither sounds “wrong” to my ear, but if I had to pick one, hmmmm…I think modular things are inherently versatile, but versatile things aren’t inherently modular, so I would go with “versatile and modular” so it gets more specific from first word to second word.

Or consider not using both those words.

Edit: the order of adjectives usually matters when they are different types of adjectives, like “five big brown bears”. You have a number, a size, and a color. That one sounds wrong if you get them out of order. But modular and versatile are the same kind of adjective, so I don’t think there’s really a wrong choice here.

There will always be insecure men (and people in general) who criticize others over nonsense topics that they’ve convinced themselves is proof they aren’t whatever insecure thing they’re afraid of being.

There was/is a recent lawsuit against Google for paying other browsers to make google the default search engine, and I think it was ruled against Google. And that payment is like 81% of Mozilla’s income. So if they have to stop those payments, Mozilla’s is gonna have to find some other ways to make money or cut back massively on their budget. So while I don’t like ads, if Mozilla has to do this to stay around, I’ll support them. If I got any facts wrong here, someone please correct me.

You could hammer 100 little tack/nails into a board and hang them vertically. They’d be a lot longer vertically then they are wide, so you could do like 25 across x 4 down. You could maybe even still keep the plastic sleeves on them.

We definitely are seeing things faster than 24 Hz, or we wouldn’t be able to tell a difference in refresh rates above that.

Edit: I don’t think we have a digital, on-off refresh rate of our vision, so fps doesn’t exactly apply. Our brain does turn the ongoing stream of sensory data from our eyes into our vision “video”, but compared to digital screen refresh rates, we can definitely tell a difference between 24 and say 60 fps.

I think I just don’t think about it until it’s happening, and then it’s too late.

Don’t worry about it too much. I don’t think this current trend will completely overtake the word “weird”, but even if it does, you’ll still be good-weird, Republicans will still be bad-weird, and people will know the difference, no matter what we call those things.

I feel like there might be an emerging market for a car company that makes new, safe cars with very low tech computer systems.

Ah who am I kidding, I wish there was a market for all kinds of functional-but-not-enshittified products out there, but the complete lack of them shows the entrenched powers that be will stomp out any attempt to upset the terrible status quo.

I meaaaan, while I did join Lemmy because I was sick of reddit the company’s greedy decisions, I do miss the amount of users and content it has/generates. If reddit joining the fediverse meant they couldn’t dictate what app I use to view their posts, I probably would enjoy being able to browse their content again.

Truuue, I hadn’t thought of that. Okay, at least it won’t be as bad as I feared.

Now I just have to sell all these vintage printing presses I bought…

It blows my mind when I think about where we might be headed with this tech. We’ve gotten SO used to the ability to communicate instantly with people far away in the technology age, how will we adapt when we have to go back 300 years and can only trust something someone tells us in person. Will we go back to local newspapers? Or can we not even trust that? Will we have public amphitheaters in busy parts of town, where people will around the news? And we can only trust these people, who have a direct chain of acquaintance all the way back to the source of the information? That seems extreme, but I dunno.

I think most likely we won’t implement extreme measures like that, to ensure we’re still getting genuine information. I think most likely we’ll just slip into completely generated false news from every source, no longer have any idea what’s really going on, but be convinced this AI thing was overblown, and have no idea we’re being controlled.
