It’s this perverted need to scream and have someone justify your scream through likes. Incredibly toxic but for some reason we regard that as normal.

I agree, it’s such a public discourse pollutant. Mastodon since inception allowed to post privately to your followers.
This whole thing reeks of “I want to scream into the void and everyone see my whining but nobody dare to say anything!” toddler mentality. Just start a fucking journal or get therapy like the rest of the adults -.-
Old thinkpads would actually let you replace the dvd-rom with another battery. Many thinkpads would have internal and removable batteries too though not sure how present this is in contemporary models.

you should have seen lemmy ml when Russia invaded Ukraine. It was almost the death of the entire platform.
your tantrum is much more cringe than any complain post I’ve ever seen lmao
I was just having issues with your opener which sounds whole lot like justification.
Cloudflare is a business. Businesses protect their profits
You say that like it’s ok to do shitty things as long as “you’re a business protecting profits”
The slippery slope falacy is so passé my dude, get on with it.
It’s mostly nerds who had the spine to migrate from Reddit rather than continueing to feed this machine that clearly brings no good for anyone.
Yeah - no one who’s seen industrial meat farming would say it’s OK. Ever. You’d have to be a psychopath to justify this level of cruelty or distance yourself cognitively by justifying it.
Because we no monkey. No need unnecessary cruelty to live. Man not ruled by flavor. Simple enough?
Because it is a fact that ethically speaking meat is extremely cruel. You’re proving my point exactly.
100% it’s just cognative dissonance. Everyone knows meat is bad but most can’t come to terms that they’re too weak to quit it. This is especially painful when people are confronted directly and a self-defence mechanism kicks in.
It’s ok to be a bit weak sometimes, everyone has a lot of going and has to choose their battles. Our contemporary culture hates to acknowledge this thus creating a lot of binary tension.
Cause typing in a password on a real keyboard is just as fast if not faster than a fingerprint scan.
Balls to manipulate Turkey into meme votes instead of solving actual issues Turkish people are being affected by? wow
But not Russia?
I think you’re right that they need to be transparent with what is considered political and what is not through a visible flag or something.
Though it’s definitely great idea to reduce weights on political content and discourage it. That’s the only way to get off this swamp and if we have to sacrifice gay pride parade talks to prevent the rise of fascism and genocide then it’s a pretty good deal imo.
Agreed.
Threads is actually kinda fun if not all of the spam and straight up harmless idiots. Meta is right for once.
There are plenty of other tools for politics and it’s better kept in smaller more mindful communities rather than these pools of random algorithmic shit.
It’s incredible how little people spend on free software :(
I used to have a dream of developing free software and launched a couple of big projects (thousands of github stars, millions of downloads) and no one fucking pays for anything no matter how easy you make it and how critical your software is to them.
To give some perspective - some Youtubers earn same amount annually from Patreon than both Gnome and KDE yearly budgets combined (which is ~3M usd).
I realized that the only way to fund something is to make people pay either through early releases, insider programs or something that forces the credit card form on them. That’s the only way.
