  • My understanding is that the Israeli economy relies very heavily on US support. If Netanyahu begins to turn away from the US, he’ll have to call on European nations for support, and at least in some places those populations are more aware of and disgusted by the behavior in Gaza. If Israel can’t get other foreign investment to continue propping up their economy, all those Israeli companies that have been attractive investments for the last 4-6 decades are going to tank hard. Along with trumps idiocy, an Israeli collapse could be a complete disaster for the industrialized world.

  • A recent episode of The House of Pod podcast included a virologist and an ER doctor (the host is a gastroenterologist) and they talked about measles and the potential lifelong effects that a non-fatal case can cause, like blindness or deafness. They also contrast with the efficacy of the vaccine, the virologist got checked before going to SE Asia and despite her last MMR dose being in the 90s she had enough antibodies that her doctor said she didn’t need a booster. She went on to talk about how while measles has mutated it has not changed to bypass immunity.

  • I’m curious what kind of human contact you’ve “tried” that didn’t work. There’s a world of difference between contact that is mediated through the context of work or planned leisure activities with relative strangers and organic meaningful interaction. Humans need to be social and feel useful to those around them. If that is lacking in your life, I suggest volunteering somewhere. Your local humane society almost certainly needs volunteers who can wash dogs and cats, or help visitors interact with the animals. Or there are likely a number of places you can volunteer to help people who are hungry or unhoused.
