  • Modern Israel is not Judaism! It’s not the same theocracy described in the old testament. It’s not even religiously pure, there’s a sizeable Christian and Muslim population. It’s perfectly valid to respect Jews and and their beliefs, and to criticize Netanyahu’s government for attempting to crush Palestine and kill its civilians indiscriminately in raids. Jewish folks in the US and abroad are joining in the protests to stop the war - this isn’t about being antisemitic, this is telling a very atrocious government to stop behaving as a similarly atrocious government did 80 years ago

  • France may be good for not respecting a religion and disallowing abuse of religious systems that would attack the freedom of non-religious/minority-religious citizens, but are going to the opposite side of this problem. Abayas don’t hurt anyone and, from what I can tell/correct me if wrong, are used as a religious observation. France is going out of their way to impose restrictions on elements that are generally harmless that these people may see as a religious necessity, attacking the freedom of religious citizens. There has to be a balance and they’re off on the other arc of the pendulum swing here.

For me, I had a netbook in 2008 and Windows 7 starter was a paywalled and slow mess, and Ubuntu 8.10 ran like a dream AND ran Windows apps! And looked cooler and the terminal was pretty awesome to use.

It’s still that way, Windows 11 runs like shit and only lets you customize so much and makes decisions on when you update and what services you can have running and numerous other minor complaints, meanwhile Linux is free, fast, works well and doesn’t get in your way.
