Yeah, I understand why it’s currently happening like that, but it’s still annoying to call at 2am and be like, “they were so hard to get on the phone!” Seems to be a recurring problem so might be worth it to have a contingency plan for winners within certain time zones, even if you just quietly inform them a few hours earlier that they should make sure they’re available at that time.

I just read an article this morning (tried to find it to link here but couldn’t) that was talking about how it will be more difficult for Dems to lean into this strategy because most of the blue states already have independent committees to draw districts (as they should.) It basically pointed to California as our sole bastion of hope for 2026 and noted that if a bunch of the states follow suit, the Republicans will have the edge. Continues to come down to the electoral college problem with small states getting disproportionate voices.

As far as I can tell, you can only block communities in sync which is why you’re having to do it one by one. Jerboa you can just block the whole NSFW instance, one and done.
Idk it was like 2 years ago. I just remember looking through fediverse guides and instances were labeled as either allowing NSFW content or not, no nuance. I didn’t dig into whether the specific instances were defederated from lemmynsfw nor did I even know to look for that at the time.
There’s not that much NSFW stuff that isn’t porn but I come across it occasionally. Usually jokes, sometimes people will also be very cautious and mark shit that isn’t really. I prefer to be largely unconstrained with what comes across my feed, just don’t care for the random puss intermingled.
I didn’t want other NSFW stuff blocked, just porn. When I was originally signing up it seemed like NSFW was being treated as an all or nothing for most instances. Idk if it’s changed or if I just needed to look harder.
Try jerboa, you can just block the nsfw instance instead of doing it piecemeal. Total game changer. (Some of the other apps probably have this functionality but I don’t know which.)
Lawyers will also do free consults, so it’s worth it to at least call around to a couple of places and see how much it will cost. My partner had to do this once and one of the lawyers ended up giving us pro bono legal advice and making a call to the police just because he thought the whole situation was stupid. He was like, “I’ll call them and figure out what their plan is and then we can figure out if you even need to hire a lawyer.” (His advice after talking to the cops was that we probably didn’t need to hire him, but that there were a couple of things he could do if we still wanted to.) So that was a nice and unexpected resolution that wouldn’t have happened had we not tried to hire someone.

Yes, it also leads to people like me feeling like they need to go down a rabbit hole for 5 hours before they’re “allowed” to ask. Then, upon finally asking, they come to find out the answer was quick and simple and they could have saved many hours.

I thought conventional wisdom was always that service industry jobs don’t really want people with degrees because they’re more likely to find something better and jump ship quickly. “Overqualified.”
How do they know when you’re not working your full 40 if you aren’t clocking in or out? I’m not familiar with Canadian labor law so you may very well be right, but it is kind of hard to imagine a legal pay structure where they can dock you for working fewer hours but don’t compensate you for working more.
Friendly reminder that wage theft is very common and just because lots of people are breaking the law doesn’t mean it’s actually legal. For example in the States, there is a fairly narrow definition of which jobs qualify as overtime exempt but go to a jobs board and you’ll find pretty much anything under the sun. Many employees are incorrectly classified as exempt and are completely unaware they are even entitled to overtime pay.

It is bizarre how many people on this thread are acting like it is an actual impossibility for someone else to not enjoy something simply because others like it.
