  • This poster doesn’t care one whit about the plight of Palestinians. It has but one goal – to be the nerdy girl that helps peel votes off the votes from the nerdy guy so her friend, the jerkish cheerleader favoured by the Jocks, can win the SGA election 49 to 48 to 3 (I’ve posted this example of how government works in First Past the Post if you’d like to understand what I mean by nerd girl and cheerleader in SGA). The purpose of this poster and others like it is to throw the election to Trump so we’re subjected to Project 2025, which incidentally aligns with Putin’s and Xi’s goals.

Please think carefully before you listen to this poster or any other like it.

  • No. You’re not here to have a discussion and make people ‘think’ about anything. You’re here to insert enough Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt into the process to corrupt it to your ends. You’re here to exploit our disdain for the fact that we can’t seem to get a better choice than what we have right now to steer us in the direction of the tyrannical Mussolini-quoting, Hitler-worshipping wannabe tinpot dictator. You and all your other friends who are pushing this nonsense that Biden is somehow as bad as or even worse than Trump, bringing up his very frankly 20th Century approach to the problems of Israel as some indication that he’s a monster that makes Trump look heroic in an attempt to steer us to wasting our votes on a third party that has no chance in hell of getting more votes than Trump if you can’t get us to vote for Trump outright to ‘tear down the system’. And some of us are calling you and yours out on this…

  • A roommate of a friend was a Qooq. Tried to get me kicked off Facebook because he didn’t like my politics. Fortunately that went nowhere, but I blocked his sorry ass when I got wind of it.

Fast forward to after the Election, and my friend let me know the roommate had seen the light. He still thinks democrats are a problem but according to said friend, he’s sitting out elections now because he realised he got lied to. Occasionally, people do change and they realise they were taken for a ride. BUT that just means that the remaining Qooqs have a higher ratio of True Believers and Shit Stirrers, which makes them harder to deal with.

  • You know, once, I agreed with you that calls that one political party or the other would overthrow the will of the people and cling to power after being voted out were alarmist and full of bullshit. When Bush supporters said the Dems wouldn’t respect the results of the election in 2004, I pointed out that Clinton left the White House in 2000 without complaint. When Obama supporters said that they were worried Bush would pull off a coup, I pointed out that Bush 41 and Ford both left the office at the end of their terms when they lost the election. When McCain supporters said Obama wouldn’t leave the White House in '12, I reminded them of Clinton and Carter. And when Trumpers said in '16 that Obama would pull off a coup, I reminded them that their counterparts on the Left said the same thing in '08.

I said the same thing after November 2020 to Biden supporters, thinking that Trump was more likely to leave the country in late December or early January to go to a place where America’s court system couldn’t get at him. I was pretty damn sure he was going to buddy-buddy up to Putin and other Dictators from a country without extradition to the US, like Saudi Arabia, North Korea, or even Russia, leaving the USA to do some ‘MAGA diplomacy only I can do,’ with him setting up some Right-Wing Shit-Agitation site on the web, collecting cash from gullible Americans thinking their problems are everyone else’s fault but their own.

Then January 6th happened. And for the first time, we did NOT have a peaceful transfer of power.

There’s still room to say ‘hey, he hasn’t overthrown the duly elected President yet…because if he had, he’d be President right now’. BUT…I don’t think it’s a far jump to say that Trump is very likely to pull a Putin on America’s Presidency to become President for Life if we give him a chance to.

  • This has got to be one of the dumbest takes EVER. Biden has been full-throated calling out the GOP for this shit, and this is a central part of his campaign.

Even if I even partially buy the idea that Biden is a squishy moderate that would rather play at being liberal while holding his hands out to the donor class for that cold hard campaign cash, I still look at the stark choice this November and realise that the way American democracy is built, either I get Biden’s milquetoast neoliberal positions, or I get the Heritage Foundation’s and Trump’s brand of Mussolini-style Fascism.

At least I think that most of Lemmy agrees with me, given you’ve gotten 9 downvotes plus at most 3 upvotes, and that’s assuming you removed your own upvote! We just have to get in front of most regular Americans and highlight the fact that if Trump wins, they have a plan to end American democracy once and for all.

  • I don’t think that’s what the expression means. I think that expression means that the Left is quick to look for reasons why it can’t work with so and so politician, while the Right mostly just goes with what Leadership says. To borrow from Stellaris, we on the Left are Libertarian and Materialist in our ethics, favouring science and self determination far more than the Right, who is Authoritarian and Spiritualist, who believe that everyone is subjected to God’s laws, and that you have people you follow, and people you command, and all is right in the world when that paradigm is followed. Sure, there are Right-wing politicians that the constituents like more than others, but they’ll ALWAYS vote Red in the end, because the most wishy-washy Conservative is still subject to pressure from leadership and the RNC, while a Blue politician isn’t (in fact, in their worldview, the Blue pol will be subjected to the DNC machine).

  • How do you expect to see a viable third party challenge in the US with our current system? All third parties do is get the major party most opposed to their position elected because it don’t matter jack shit if 51 people vote against Orange Hitler if 3 of them vote ‘Principled Third Party’, leaving only 48 people to vote for the major party candidate opposed to Orange Hitler. Orange Hitler wins 49-48-3, and all 51 people who didn’t want Orange Hitler get stuck with him because 3 didn’t want Grandpa Joe. Leave off with the Rebellion for now, and spend your effort on replacing First Past the Post. Until you do that, all you’ll do is ensure we get Orange Hitler.

  • That was what givesomefucks was saying. Team Blue does not need any Team Red voters. They need Team Yellow and Team Green and Team No-Colour-Because-They-Stay-Home votes. But they keep reaching out to Team Red voters by shying to the Right in the stupid and hopeless quest to draw some of those voters over to their side, ignoring a much larger slice of people who don’t want our government slipping to the right. Of course, I have my theory – Team Green especially is horrible about staying home if they don’t get EXACTLY what they want. Team Red SEEMS to be the more reliable answer than Team Green, but they’ve already bought the propaganda that we’re all baby-eating, baby-f**king Satan worshippers over here on the Left.

  • You misunderstand the suggestion. The time to drive Democratic Party policy is in the primary. Vote for the Lefties. Vote for the socialists. Vote for the anarcho-communists. Vote for the leftiest Lefty that ever leftied. Drive the party Left there, but in that General, you need to vote Blue. The alternative may well ensure you never vote again because they have a plan that involves the voting public being turned into serfs and slaves for their policies. The righties have known this for a goddamn fucking long time. They express it as “Vote for the Conservative in the Primary, and vote for the Republican in the General.” We need to steal that thinking and modify it to ‘vote for the Liberal in the primary and the Democrat in the General.’ There’s fucking more of us than there are of those shitheads, just like there were in Iran in the 1970s and in Germany in the 1930s. When you get on your fucking high horse and say ‘they aren’t liberal enough’, that’s how you get people like Hitler and the Ayatollah.

  • I don’t believe for a second that you actually believe this. I think you’re just a concern troll trying to hide behind the inequity that allows kids to go without food and water while pushing the false narrative that every actor earns millions of dollars a year and thus doesn’t “deserve” to strike. If you really are concerned about kids, then perhaps stand in solidarity of the hundreds of thousands of people NOT earning seven figures so THEIR kids may be guaranteed food and water, and pressure the folks who ARE earning seven figures to show a little charity for the kids you’re so concerned about.

  • Excellent comment. I’m just going to add some numbers ans a source to it.

If you’re in the United States and are working as an actor, your income is closer to Minimum Wage than to the big names in the entertainment industry, with wages (not salaries, these people are paid by the hour) ranging from $7.75 up to $36.00, averaging at $15.29. We talk about the big names, but these are the people really being hit. Hollywood execs don’t even want to pay these wages. They’d rather give you a month of wages in order to have access to your voice and face for all time. This is even worse when you factor in that your image might get big…imagine being a fresh face right out of acting college, going in for your first audition, and they say “We like you. We’ll give you $3000 if you just enter our scanning booth and spend an hour saying nonsense lines.” That pays your first month’s rent (barely), but lo and behold, down the road, your likeness is earning the studio execs a cool billion, and you ain’t getting a penny of that, because you signed a contract saying your likeness and voice could be used by them at no compensation for you for all time.

THAT is a big part of what this strike is about.

  • Sure. The leading actors in a production are crazy rich. But according to indeed.com, the average actor earns between $7.25 and $36.00 an hour, averaging at $15.29. For every lead, you’ve got countless little people backing them up. Strikes aren’t just about the crazy wealthy leading actors. It’s also about the dude pulling in $15 an hour. In fact, the leads aren’t going to license their likeness and voices to the studio execs, so they really have nothing to worry about. But they’re here standing in solidarity with the people who don’t have that luxury, who will go in, get a $3000 cheque, then never work in the industry again.

Just to be clear, you’re busy simping for the billionaires who run the media industry, pointing to the millionaires who are saying they are being nasty to everyone in industry. Says a lot about you, buddy!
