back then, I thought it was some scary OS for people who’s tech savvy
That “too hard, too scary” reputation is a big part of what has held back linux adoption.
But when people actually give it a try, most realize that reputation isn’t really true.

That’s the beauty of Linux- there are so many distros to choose from.
Something for everyone.
And if enough people don’t like the existing options, you are always free to fork what exists and make something that fits your needs better.
Powerline adapters are almost always a “last resort” option.
It’s always possible, but not often practical, especially when you don’t have permission to drill holes in those concrete walls.
I suppose you could do surface runs, but those are ugly and more vulnerable to physical damage.

The fascists in other countries are taking notes after seeing how easily Trump and the MAGAts are managing to get away with this bullshit.
The rest of us need to wake the fuck up and push back agaist thw faccists before it gets too late in our countries.

STOP POSTING PICTURES OF YOUR CHILDREN ON THE INTERNET.
Stop using Facebook/Instagram.

Don’t use Facebook.

What wording would you have them use?

Is there a name for the next step beyond perverse incentives?
Because that’s where we are now.

Dunno. My Corolla doesn’t have any features locked out that I am aware of. It certainly hasn’t tried to upsell me any “upgrades”.

If my daughter wants more Lego, I’ll just buy it second hand
That’s where most of the sets my kids had came from.
It’s a durable product that is easy to clean. Buying used is very low risk.

The wizard lego is very disappointing, and goes completely against their other inclusive language.
To be fair, they started making those sets long before anyone knew the author was a TERF.

You may think it’s crazy talk, but the concept has already been patented.

The way they want it to operate is not monitoring them, presumably.
Or pushing ads on the device idle screen, or inserted into other things you are trying to watch. (pre-rolls on HDMI sources…)

Is there a ful list anywhere of brands and models that lock non-network features behind a network connection requirement?
I’ve heard people complaining about some that don’t let you select HDMI input without first connecting to the internet and “activating” the TV, but the model is usually not specified in those complaints.

Now we just need a way to do that
I have some ideas.
that isn’t vigilante violence.
Oh. Nevermind…

Growing up on a farm we killed, plucked and processed a few hundred chickens each year. Kept us and several families in town fed with good quality meat over the winter.
It’s not a bad thing to be that close to your own food production.

I find that the the same authoritarian, isolationist, and anti-intellectual mind-viruses that permeate through society in the United States (especially in rural communities) have a beachhead here in Western Europe
America’s worst export.

Nobody else appointed the US as “world police”.
It’s a role that they gleefully took on so they could go around telling others what to do.
With most modern distros, I would say that most typical users shouldn’t have to go to the command line any more than they had to in windows (which is to say very seldom).
Yet there is that lingering reputation that you have to be some sort of command line guru to even think about using Linux- and that simply isn’t true. Hasn’t been true for decades.
