All of the data you generate when using Reddit…posts, comments, view tracking, voting, subreddit subscriptions, etc.

I hope people aren’t under the impression that Lemmy is about privacy.
Arguably it’s even less private than Reddit, as at least Reddit has some sort of controls on who can access your data i.e. whoever pays.
But on Lemmy, that’s free with federation. Maybe not the same granular tracking data, but enough of users personal data is available as to not consider Lemmy to be a privacy centric service.

What are the odds there is another victim, or two, who were too embarrassed, ashamed, or traumatized, to come forward?

While arson and insurance fraud to save $7,500 over 3 years, may not sound reasonable…
It’d be pretty hilarious and they should do it.

Another commenter already provided a good answer dealing with that issue.

I always chuckle whenever I hear people earnestly recommend Pine Phone, or Librem, to other users as daily drivers.
Tinker? Sure, absolutely. But daily use? lol, no.
I look forward to someday daily driving a purpose built Linux phone, but that day isn’t here, yet.
Until then, deal with Graphene, or get an Android that supports pmOS. Just understand the real security implications and risks associated with the later.

Same company. Same scam/terrible management.

lol. Just lol.
Edit: For those unaware.
“It’s also worth noting that plenty of Purism users have reported that they haven’t received the company’s previous Librem 5 phone, several years after ordering it. That phone first started shipping in 2020, while users report that Purism isn’t honoring refunds for these delayed orders or that the company is dragging its feet in this regard. So if it looks fishy and smells fishy, well, it must be a fish.”

And you’re so worried about people getting in front of you, on the freeway, that you instead opt to drive without a safe breaking distance when traveling at 70 mph?
Again, as someone who has lived in, and had daily hell commutes in many dense urban cities, that’s insane.
In your defense, anecdotally, you’re clearly not alone in that mentality.
Personally, I found, over many years, that simply staying in the “slow” lane, while keeping a safe distance, never made my commute meaningfully longer.

Are you seriously driving at speeds of 70 mph in dense urban environments…?
Because, speaking as someone who has lived in many dense urban environments, that’s insane.
The only time you should reach those speeds is on the freeway, in which case, there’s no reason not to maintain safe distances, again, when at those speeds.
Virtual Box is a Type 2 hypervisor, which means it’s running on top of the OS, and not directly on the hardware.
KVM is a Type 1, which runs directly on the hardware itself.
There are pros and cons to each, and VBOX is a great piece of software, but it is more resource intensive than other options available.
There’s plenty of good reasons to keep a windows device updated and available for use.
Honestly, I prefer that to spinning up a windows VM, especially if your needs include Windows software that interfaces directly with external hardware.
I realize that’s not an option for everyone, but for those who have an extra device available, or can afford a used laptop to keep in a closet, it’s well worth it IMO.

Unless it’s for SMTP only, it’s probably a back end sever to some other front facing box, or service, that has IP addresses whitelisted for email.
I’m pretty sure I read one of his comments elsewhere talking about tunneling everything over SSH, so I assume that’s what he meant, but I could be mistaken.
Regardless, using an EOL distro as an internet facing SSH server that’s 8 years behind on SSH updates, is probably a bad idea.

We’re not talking about some punch card COBOL machine he jimmy rigged with network access, it’s an old Debian Linux box with SSH enabled.
It’s not like Metasploit would have a tough time finding unpatched vulnerabilities for it…
