any change to shell scripts that isn’t posix compatible brings opinionated people out the woodwork.
Yo. Did I hear someone breaking POSIX-compatability over here?

First, I would like to give you some major props. Installing Arch, in itself, is a big deal. It is not a beginner-friendly distro. It is a very power-user friendly distro and has an incredible wiki that is helpful, at least to some degree, for many distros.
For a beginner distro, I would recommend Linux Mint for its easy transition and great focus on user experiences or Bazzite if you really want to install and get gaming.
When taking drivers in Linux, most are provided as either kernel modules (integrated into the kernel, so you don’t have to worry about installing anything) or packaged for the distro, in which case, once installed via package manager, they’ll auto-update whenever you update system packages. They are so much easier to deal with than Windows drivers (for the end user). For example, to use a Wacom drawing tablet, all one has to do is plug it in.

put yourself in Putin’s position - it’s a complete non-solution. You don’t fold after going all in.
That’s literally no one’s problem but Putin’s. He has committed crimes. He should accept the personal reprecussions. You’re basically making the “affluenza” argument for someone who has been committing war crimes and murdering civilians because they dared to want to have a representative government.

It’s really not just that it is/was cheaper. There are cases where, all costs considered, it was actually measurably more expensive. The main reason for off-shoring is purely ideological. Amercan capital has nothing but disdain for workers and hatred for organized labor. Off-shoring was intended to crush unions, while giving a temporarily lower price to goods to prevent the populace from understanding how much they were getting screwed.
Chip production is a highly specialized field, where workers could readily demand concessions from capital, were they on anything resembling stable ground. That was not too be allowed.

I’m more concerned about the non-consensual scraping causing excess load on the servers. The taking of content without license to train their energy-wasting autocomplete that is being used to for little commercially but to try to cheapen labor and pocket the money is a problem too. But I hate having servers impacted by their bullshit.

This explains our instance having perf issues.

“But if we avoid using the tools of democracy to create positive change and instead encourage people to not vote and be apathetic, we can make the human experience objectively worse for everyone. And, if we do it hard enough, and ensure that enough vulnerable people are sacrificed, it will magically turn those apathetic people into class l-conscious revolutionaries that are willing to die violent deaths for our version of utopia.”
I wish this were a “/s”.

I agree and disagree at the same time. Bars/clubs/etc can be good for quick hookups. Social hobbies can lay groundwork for much greater depths of sustained sluttery.

Honestly, one doesn’t really have to have low standards when taking that approach. Just go to bars that fit one’s vibe and talk to people, and don’t be judgemental on superficial things. Either it’ll click with someone or not.
To be fair, it does help if one finds the majority of people of their preferred gender(s) to have something beautiful about them.
And being a bit of a slut. I can state from personal experience that that helps. Embrace your inner slut (ethically).

I recently started the anime. Yeah. Pretty accurate. Luffy (main character) wants to become king of the pirates but has an ethical code similar to a knight-errant. His crew is very much the same. In one arc, they all risk their lives (including one of them who was still recovering from near-fatal wounds), initially because one of the crew was enslaved as a child by pirates that murdered their mother.
So, yeah. Pretty accurate.

Are you trying to tell me that the largest sect of protestant Christianity in the US, which was explicitly founded on the belief that chattel slavery was right and “godly”, might have trouble with respecting the consent of people vulnerable to coercion? /s

where are all these Utopian “red cities” that people are apparently in favor of?
They do not and can not exist. Conservatism is an antisocial and anti-intellectual, authoritarian ideology. This pretty much rules it out of success in most conventional metrics.

COBRA is a fucking joke so that they can claim that you have the “option” to get health insurance while being completely unaffordable.

Yes. Yes they are.

Holy false equivalency Batman. There is a vast difference between hunting and torturing animals. It is a case where intent and what that one approaches the task has a substantial bearing on the individual’s likelihood of anti-social personality disorder. An ethical hunter shows respect to the animal that they kill by doing their best to minimize suffering (this includes things like choice of weapon as well as ensuring that any game that they shoot it’s tracked down so that they didn’t suffer needlessly).
Do some people with anti-social personality disorder hunt? Yes. Some of them also eat at Wendy’s. You sound like you’re trying to invent a way to make yourself “better than” a large swath of people. I’d suggest that you practice some self-reflection.
I say this as someone who does not hunt but previously worked on a small poultry farm where I had to slaughter as well as euthanize animals. I’ve seen what good and bad quality of life does to animals. Ignoring the plight of factory farmed animals does not make you a better person.

I would say that I think it’s weird because I think shaved pubes are weird (and experienced horrific razor burn when I tried it back in college).
Sounds like you are a fucking rockstar dad though. That’s a very vulnerable thing to think about asking your parent for a teenage boy. Lots of self-consciousness and trying to figure oneself out. That he felt comfortable asking you says a lot. That you stepped up to ensure that he knew how to do so safely says a lot too.

Life long windows user. I switched to Arch
Fuck. That’s like going straight from English breakfast tea to hash oil.
I’ve been using Linux almost exclusively both in my personal and professional life for a decade and a half. I only installed Arch a month or two ago.

This is not how soldiers work for the most part though.
Maybe modern professional soldiers. However, there was some research around WW2 with draftees and conscripts that suggested that in the case, a substantial number would not fire on the enemy or intentionally miss in close combat. There has been some debate over accuracy of the results but, the US military found them compelling enough to sink immense resources into attempting to address this through training.
Anecdotally, my grandfather was a volunteer and gunner on a landing craft in the Pacific and would have died, if not for the armor plate in front of him. He admitted to intentionally not shooting at enemy soldiers, when laying down suppressing fire, primarily damaging empty sheds and the like. Despite choosing to be there, he didn’t want to kill anyone.
Compare that to conscripts and draftees fighting in the Russia-Ukraine war and you’re a lot more likely to find people uncommitted to killing other human beings. Most human beings have a strong aversion to homicide, even in war.

I don’t understand how being smart and not needing human input makes these weapons more effective
Probably a lot about humans not usually liking killing other humans. Humans are more likely to accept a surrender or, miss a target due lack of dedication to taking a life or intentionally miss.
JFC. What is wrong with people? I just want to write code that works, is interesting, and doesn’t have memory problems.
