  • Fair enough
    although I asked as I didn’t want to flood this thread from the back and forth but thinking again maybe it’s ok?

    @hungryphrog@lemmy.blahaj.zone I’ve got a couple of questions:

    1. What’s your approximate budget?
    2. What will this primarily be used for? [Work, school, personal] <- could be specialized or a mix of any.
    3. What’s your experience with Operating Systems? (Windows, Linux, Mac) <- (asking here as you stated wanted something “easy to use”).
    4. From your previous comment above what do you mean by “scrolling and playing”? I’m assuming web browsing and gaming? If this is correct what kinds of games do you typically play?

    Please read the section below before replying with answers for the above

    As you can see, some of these questions I typically ask can get a bit personal hence why I ask that I have private conversations unless the person in question consents and acknowledges that they’re ok with sharing potentially private information (like even writing this out makes me sketched out as mishandling any type of private information can be a serious legal risk)

    In the end what matters most to me is helping people figuring out what they want/need

  • A barchart might be better as the comparison of instances with the most subscribed accounts doesn’t mean much I feel

    we have some users that register but are inactive and/or are infrequently active which could be a sign of lurkers or bots but empty accounts don’t mean much when it comes to the health of an instance.

    However; if we look at each community’s active monthly and daily users it can tell another story and that data compared against Reddit’s could be useful for anyone seeking alternatives

    I’m rambling with little sleep but hopefully what I’ve said make a little bit of sense

  • haven’t watched the video yet

    I’m curious if they’ve pulled off their magic again

    Edit:
    Intel what the hell

    If Intel gets sued to extinction, anyone who’s purchased an Intel 13/14th gen might become screwed without recourse when it comes to CPU support/remediation, as such:

    • whether you’re a company, retailer, manufacturer, and/or end user;
      • (if you’re in the US) you might want to consider contacting the FTC to investigate Pat Gelsinger and Intel’s board of directors for violation of consumer rights, warranty violations, manipulative communication/gaslighting, and a lack of disclosure of known (since 2022) defects for their 13 and 14th gen CPUs (intentionally selling a defective product).

    Intel’s egregious predatory manipulative actions has harmed everyone as the hardware ecosystem is such a vital and integrated part of modern society.

    Intel, instead of “chopping wood”, perhaps you might want to focus on getting a haircut, your old bangs clearly show split hairs.

    If anyone has any recourse/accountability suggestions for Intel owners in other regions/countries please comment below

    I’m going to try and figure out if there’s anything similar to the FTC for Canadians

  • that is true but for beginners with a $1000 budget who ask about buying laptops to host services

    • I’d usually steer towards pc building as buying a laptop would usually be the worst of all options (which brings me great pain for my customers)
      • and building an actual server can be costly unless you’re buying easily accessible second -hand/used components

    one thing I forgot to mention is that it also heavily depends on an individual’s use cases, restrictions, and preferences

  • that is definitely true however the added benefit is typically a longer warranty range as buying a laptop would typically mean that all components would be sold under a single flat warranty cycle/deadline

    plus even if your computer is borked, you can still take it into a microcenter, memoryexpress, brick-and-mortor retailer to have their technicians figure it out the problem for a cost

    I often have these time vs cost tradeoff discussions with my customers after they’ve been informed on the basics
