This might be a dumb question but is Winamp still FOSS?
As far as I know the WCL isn’t known as being an OSI approved license

I recently learned that Strawberry has native built-in streaming capabilities
not sure if this is what you’re looking for but it’s an option that might be useful for you🤗
licenseless? 🤔
these sorts of things tend to sketch me out but giving a +1 as someone smarter than me will know if this is trustworthy

the best thing to do is download and torrent to preserve humanity’s wealth in knowledge otherwise we risk losing immeasurable treasures to the sands of time
Personal recommendation:
qBittorrent
Losing Naomi Wu to the CCP was a catastrophic loss to the FOSS community, I remember that she once went directly to confront a company (I think located in China) to demand for the release of their modified version of a copyleft software
I hope she’s still alive and doing well
whenever possible I buy games from Itch.io as some devs provide Steam keys alongside their source code and packaged versions for most (if not all) platforms which is usually: [Windows, Linux, Android]
not sure about the majority of the software but I’d recommend FreeCad as an alt to Solidworks
Fair enough
although I asked as I didn’t want to flood this thread from the back and forth but thinking again maybe it’s ok?
@hungryphrog@lemmy.blahaj.zone I’ve got a couple of questions:
Please read the section below before replying with answers for the above
As you can see, some of these questions I typically ask can get a bit personal hence why I ask that I have private conversations unless the person in question consents and acknowledges that they’re ok with sharing potentially private information (like even writing this out makes me sketched out as mishandling any type of private information can be a serious legal risk)
In the end what matters most to me is helping people figuring out what they want/need
As a freelance IT consultant I could help you choose a laptop if you’d like as this was something I used to do back before the Reddit implosion
oh what the hell ✨NATIVE ANDROID SUPPORT✨ it looks like???
damn this year’s looking great for FOSS software dev🥳🤌
A barchart might be better as the comparison of instances with the most subscribed accounts doesn’t mean much I feel
we have some users that register but are inactive and/or are infrequently active which could be a sign of lurkers or bots but empty accounts don’t mean much when it comes to the health of an instance.
However; if we look at each community’s active monthly and daily users it can tell another story and that data compared against Reddit’s could be useful for anyone seeking alternatives
I’m rambling with little sleep but hopefully what I’ve said make a little bit of sense
haven’t watched the video yet
I’m curious if they’ve pulled off their magic again
Edit:
Intel what the hell
If Intel gets sued to extinction, anyone who’s purchased an Intel 13/14th gen might become screwed without recourse when it comes to CPU support/remediation, as such:
Intel’s egregious predatory manipulative actions has harmed everyone as the hardware ecosystem is such a vital and integrated part of modern society.
Intel, instead of “chopping wood”, perhaps you might want to focus on getting a haircut, your old bangs clearly show split hairs.
If anyone has any recourse/accountability suggestions for Intel owners in other regions/countries please comment below
I’m going to try and figure out if there’s anything similar to the FTC for Canadians
that is true but for beginners with a $1000 budget who ask about buying laptops to host services
one thing I forgot to mention is that it also heavily depends on an individual’s use cases, restrictions, and preferences
that is definitely true however the added benefit is typically a longer warranty range as buying a laptop would typically mean that all components would be sold under a single flat warranty cycle/deadline
plus even if your computer is borked, you can still take it into a microcenter, memoryexpress, brick-and-mortor retailer to have their technicians figure it out the problem for a cost
I often have these time vs cost tradeoff discussions with my customers after they’ve been informed on the basics
hmm after rereading the initial comment I mean it’s not impossible but I’d posit that it’s highly unlikely as the majority of us have already experienced the dynamics where doing so would drive our users away to another instance like the initial reddit implosion
I’d assume a sponsored post on a Lemmy community would just be a pinned post that a mod got money for
and yes that’d probably be it
one person’s footgun is another’s opportunity lol
Looking online it looks like everyone’s dunking on this half-assed attempt of…something🤔
