This sounds like OP has a full time position somewhere and is thinking of quitting to go work as a contractor. My guess is that they’re unemployed after 2 months and would need to find a new job.

My general feeling on this is that it’s fine if they understand the difference. I don’t know of they’re in the US or elsewhere, but in the US the taxes on 1199 contractors are pretty high and there are no benefits. This can heavily change the calculus.

I would see if my current employer would allow me to take a 2 month leave of absence and then come back.

No, you didn’t get banned because you hurt their feelings. You got banned because you can’t follow rules. Other instances banned you because you’ve been shown that you can’t follow other instances’ rules.

This reads very heavily of “but I had to reply because they needed to hear my carefully-considered opinion.” NO. THEY. DON’T. They didn’t want to talk to you and you decided to barge in and tell them what you had to say because by god you needed to be heard.

Colloquially, it just means a small municipality. A “rural town” is a small municipality that is not near a larger metro area.

Town has a specific meaning in some states. I’m from Ohio. There is no such legal meaning here. Any municipality over 5k residents is a city. Anything other than that is a village. I am from a city with a population of about 6k. Outside of the city limits is farmland. I would say I’m from a small town/rural area.

Linux distros have to ship all these drivers because otherwise someone would try that distro and say “nothing works, this sucks” if they had to go hunt for drivers to install. Windows computers really are the same way, but they’re almost always preconfigured.
