You’re assuming Original OP is from a western culture (well I didn’t see the original post so idk what exactly it said). In many Asian cultures, (consensual) arranged marriage is still a thing, particularly if the male side has a little bit of money (not necessarily “rich”, just own a house). There’s a lot of pressure to get married for some reason.

There is no such thing as consensual arranged marriage. Nor is it a thing in Asian cultures to have the woman being significantly older than the man, it’s the opposite. And then there is the fact that it’s not about marriage but a date so there is no connection to this romcom fantasy anyway, with the possible exception that the social butterfly dad may have simply paid the woman to date his son (Prostitution).

        There is.

Its basicially when families decide to introduce their children to each other and then pressure them to get married. It is technically consensual, although this “consent” is highly coerced due to social expectations and not truely freely given.

My parents got married that way. We are from mainland China.

You’re correct about this one, I didn’t read the original post, so if that’s the case, that’s very unusual and probably trolling.

Not reading the original post explains a lot. It was really not convincing by any means. The social awkward 22-year old with a social butterfly dad getting his son a 27-year old woman to date him. And of couse dad’s even paying for the whole show. And what does the 22-year old social awkward son do? Humblebrag on Lemmy, hoping to make it less obvious by complaining about how dominant his dad is. Nothing about this story works. I’m not saying that weird things don’t happen in real life, I’ve seen a lot that was much weirder. But there are certain principles which act as boundaries. There is real weirdness and there is weirdness only found in fiction. And this story absolutely belongs in the second category.
