Don’t use delivery apps. Cook your own meals, it’s both cheaper and better for your health.

Most of the time. It’s cause I’m drunk and would happily go pick something up but won’t get in a car to drive because, well, drunk.

But I also always check the address to see if it’s a ghost kitchen or not.

Of course cooking is preferable, but it’s not possible everyday for everyone. Everyone’s situation is different.

Food to go is a good option on days when cooking is not convenient/possible. You can order by calling the restaurant directly over the phone, go pick it up and see the restaurant and its owner/employee face to face, so you’ll see if that’s a chain. There’s no delivery nor app fee. It encourage walking and support nearby restaurants.

I don’t think xep came across as sanctimonious, your response is a bit rude. It’s a fediverse where people are allowed to have a say.

I don’t like delivery apps and I also make an effort to eat at local spots and order from those who are small and do their own delivery. My point would also be if you don’t like the business practice then vote with your wallet and don’t use the business uber/just eat etc. Will I be swore at for saying this?

I hate greedy and hate big business but the truth is if they didn’t have customers it wouldn’t occur.

Ok so even if it does this is a conversation. Address it rather than return it with rudeness. The answer could be I like a takeaway and I don’t always feel like cooking. There’s enough people out there willing to be rude or argumentative. Rather than feed it, is calling it out with a positive action a better outcome.

It’s a tangential distraction largely unrelated from the topic at hand.
In this context it’s worth being dismissive of.

Wouldn’t not using these apps en masse drive them out of business? Then they’d have no platform to do their evil. Hardly a distraction. It’s a very rational boycott.

It may be. But really does it have to be so harsh? That’s why we have the downvote.

I’m understand it’s not the carebear village here. But it does not have to be a mean place either.

There’s spaces here to vent or to have heated discussions.

It pretty much says at the top of the page it’s hosted at behaw be a little nicer than usual. There is a surprising amount of intolerance in this chat.

Agree big time. Or order directly from the restaurant. I usually call, then pick up. I get the food faster, and I know nobody has tampered with it.

Only time I’d even consider using delivery app is if my extremely sick. Even then, I have some canned soups ready to go.
