The findings place Hungary alongside countries widely viewed in Ukraine as aligned with Russia's war effort, including Iran (52%), North Korea (57%), and Belarus (72%).
Orban is controlled by Putin, and is absolutely 100% hostile to Ukraine ATM. Hungary is also hostile towards EU and democracy in general.
Hopefully Orban is replaced after the election, if not Hungary has a real serious problem, because it seem pretty clear that an overwhelming majority of the population support the opposition.
It kinda blows me away how the EU has let Orban fester in Hungary for so long with effectively zero meaningful punitive action. Yes, some funds were withheld, but nothing of real impact seems to have been done.
I think it is complicated. First off, the EU has very little teeth in terms of doing anything significant to countries like Hungary. But even if they did, if you push Hungary out of the EU, then Russia moves in just the same as they are in Belarus. Now you have a Russian controlled country in Central Europe. That’s a problem. I think the EU is hoping that come election time, things resolve themselves without the need for extreme action that could result in a much less stable Europe.
I agree, Hungary has gotten off way to easy, for the massive amount of problems they have caused, and for actually being traitors to the values of EU.
We need to be able to suspend membership in different degrees, Hungary has about 75% of their export to other EU countries, so it’s not like there aren’t options.
