A suspect who had installed a bong into the dashboard of his car was arrested for the 98th time by officers following a high speed chase. Dashcam footage shared by Thurston County Sherriff Derek Sanders on Monday (23 March) shows officers chasing a vehicle through Down Olympia, Washington after they received reports that a pair of organized retail theft suspects had just fled a store. After a high speed pursuit, which was then called off by officers due to the reckless driving of the fleeing motorist, officers eventually located the two suspects and their truck. Inside the truck officers found a “custom bong device built into the dash of the truck so he could comfortably smoke drugs while driving”. Meth, heroin, and fentanyl were also discovered, as well as the stolen items. The driver of the truck had 97 prior arrests. He is facing charges of DUI, eluding, and possession of narcotics. The passenger was turned over to Centralia PD for organized retail theft.
*Two pursuits. Both were terminated because his driving was so reckless that it was dangerous to keep chasing him. He was blowing through intersections at high speed through downtown Olympia and into Lacey.
That’s how innocent people die. A family heading home. A kid crossing the street. We’re handing the wheel to a driver who’s apparently high on meth and fentanyl and has no intention of stopping.*
