The authors of the dangerous Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) unveiled an amended version this week, but it’s still an unconstitutional censorship bill that continues to empower state officials to target services and online content they do not like.

EFF’s take on the amended version of KOSA. TL;DR summary:

We are asking everyone reading this to oppose this latest version, and to demand that their representatives oppose it—even if you have already done so.

I am sad that censorship is still, still, a thing that is considered by the people who write the laws in the US. This law is antithetical to all of us who enjoy the freedom to express our views without restraint.

Always ask yourself, “Who profits from this?”

My read is social media companies and Karens. Social media companies because it raises the barrier to entry (would Lemmy be able to handle PII properly?) and gives them even more data.

Could’ve worded that headline better. I’m all for getting rid of dangerous kids

But you should know that if it’s a law or act with kids in the title, it will have absolutely nothing to do with kids in any way

The older they are, the more dangerous they get.
