I am not criticizing them, I’m just out of the loop.

“communist”. Define please, or I’ll assume you’re in high school.

CCP? Soviet state? RCP? Are they still around ? Gimme a break.

I’m assuming the definition of “communist” they’re using is “people that openly call themselves communists” – because there are a lot of them on the fediverse.

The use of the word alarms me, I admit, because it’s a right wing word used to paint everything progressive as extreme as Soviet Union or CCP under Mao, the collective taking away of private property and difference and advantage.

“Communism” is at this point a kind of highschool level argument of egalitarianism, an idealized abstraction.

        Then there’s Marxism etc tl:dr…

No matter what you think of some of the concepts embedded (a few are actually progressive or seem so) it’s a fraught ideology, so laden with dipshit baggage few sensible people talk about it seriously.

(Marxism is useful as an analytical tool to discuss capitalism, but no one sensible wants to live in a marxist state!)

To me, “communist” is a right wing tell.

Interesting because I’ve never come across even one.

Mainly I hear it as an accusation, and never see any discussions of the ideas and concepts etc.

(NOR DO I WANT TO I had enough of the rock throwing RCP types in the 80s and 90s).

It really depends on what instances you’re browsing. If you’re not browsing [All] you probably won’t see them – they hang out on instances like lemmy.ml
