    part of me wishes i could understand this obsession with russia attacking europe when they’ve displayed a clear inability to cohesively respond to nato encroachment in ukraine.

      It’s ur-fascism. By a con­tin­u­ous shift­ing of rhetor­i­cal focus, the ene­mies are at the same time too strong and too weak.

      The idea that Russia is an expansionist power doing a territorial grab is the linchpin of the whole narrative. And one of key justifications for keeping the proxy war going is that Russia will just keep expanding if Ukraine falls.
