When you’re right, you’re right

When you’re right, you’re right

Many people will definitely go back, but the percentage staying might be better this time around. Linux has gotten a lot more usable and stable for those tech inclinced enough to be able to install it thanks in part to proton, immutable distros, flatpacks, Wayland, and improved defaults. Mint and bazzite are pretty darn good for daily use. I’ve never stayed on Linux as long as I have with this run, and I really don’t feel much of a push to leave it. Most everything I want to do just works.

Let the parasites cook, maybe they can fix it

I’ve had a good experience with Bazzite. It worked out of the box for steam, and the “bazaar” app store built into it had everything I needed. Heroic is in there and good for handling PC games from other stores. Use Proton+ to get the latest Proton GE if you run into any windows game compatibility issues and it may solve them.
My 5000 series has worked out of the box on Bazzite. The only GPU bug I’ve run into is that Moonlight is incompatible with the driver. All of the games I’ve tried have worked with proton GE, and with some config tinkering I even have VR with full body tracking working for VRChat…
HOWEVER
I can’t say its a premium experience for competitive games or VR. Both have latency issues that impact the experience. Maybe an older shooter like openMW would be just fine, but modern games like Rematch have had some weirdness, even though they “run fine”.

I haven’t used nextcloud in years. Has it gotten any better with external storages, specifically when there are many files in one directory? It used to time out/become unresponsive in that situation, and make many unnecessary database requests/updates.

Others influence many things about my life. I don’t see it as policing if I’m trying to choose to bring more positivity to the table.

oh no. I should upvote more. I’m really bad about voting at all 😓
I’ve been seeing waaaay too much unwarranted vitriol and anger in comments lately, for things that really aren’t that big a deal (like Linux vs windows) and I find it disappointing. As a community we should want Lemmy to grow, and yes that does mean we will get more “normie” posts, but imo that’s good and if someone doesn’t like it they can use more niche community spaces, which there will be more of with a larger userbase.

If the host has Plex pass other accounts dont need it to watch, iirc.

One minute for you and me, but that sort of thing just isn’t feasible for many even if they have someone walking them through it over the phone.
I dunno, I dont think it’s normal to get two blue screens on a fresh windows install.
Windows audio really is trash though, I’m totally with you there.

If a service has authentication centralized, then access will also be cut.

While I am deeply disappointed by the message, their actions in the industry have still been generally positive over the years and their services remain one of the only reasonable alternatives to google, apple, and microsoft’s cloud services. Outside of the VPN, Their UX still needs work before I can say its ready for the average person - but It’s still good enough for most people here who have some base level of technological literacy.
Though I am now looking for and hoping for an alternative to crop up somewhere.

I eat fast food only when I use coupons to pay $6 or less for a meal. (Was getting one from McDonalds for $3.50 but they removed the coupon I used smh).

Which one of you forgot to open the app so we all ceased to exist to save on simulation resources?

For the record, they still claim that they do not sell user information nor data.
