Can someone explain to an outsider wtf is going on that labour can storm in with the biggest support base and just completely fall apart within such a “short” timeframe?
People didn’t so much vote for Labour, as they voted for “not Conservative”. Reform (Nigel Farage’s party) and the Greens also made gains, but not very much due to the UK’s first past the post system. Labour won via a “loveless landslide”, and in the months since their victory, they seem to be determined to stand for even less than they did at the election (which already was very little)
Labour was voted in as the best way to get the tories out. Not because people actually wanted labour. Strategic voting, it was referred as.
Labour have just continued the tories policies though including their very controversial online safety act, digital id and asylum hotels, among many other controversial policies.
I would vote them again though if it means keeping reform out but honestly I cant agree with or take seriously any of the available parties. All are absolutely terrible, useless, liars, and cannot back up their claims or have a reasonable way of funding them without screwing something else majorly and causing backlash.
Its depressing to watch, and to say that yeah, its still better than the forced conscription Sunak was hammering on about.

I mean, no, seriously though, when we were 15 there was a lot of youth violence, gang violence on neighborhood streets, heck one of my classmates went to prison for murdering an old woman while he was burglarising her house.

People didn’t vote to get Labour in, they voted to get the Tories out.
There’s more to why they’re especially disliked now that they’ve been in government for a while but that more or less sums up how they won the election. Or rather, how the Tories handed it to them on a silver platter.
I don’t know, but the previous New Zealand Labour government did something similar. They were voted in with an outright majority, very rare under our system, and lost nearly half their support in a three year term.
Mostly by doing fuck all.
They didn’t really have the biggest support base, the “first past the post” system only gives that impression. In reality they got 33% of the vote, the lowest vote share of any majority party in British history, they lost the previous election with 32% of the vote.
What happened is the conservative party had it’s vote split in most constituencies by the new right wing “reform” party. This allowed them to gain 200 seats despite only increasing their vote share by 1%.
And all labour had to do to ride that to genuine reform was not be a bunch of fascist twats themselves but, you know

I don’t know what’s more depressing, the idea that this is true or that I kind of understand their point.
