After hearing so much anticipation about the upcoming movie, I’m currently at chapter 4 of Project Hail Mary (Audiobook). I am not disappointed.

I’m up to chapter 8 and really enjoying it! It’s been so easy to apply Ryan Gosling’s voice to the main character.

looking at some trailers it reminds me of when I visited the ISS at Cape Canaveral, everything white/off white, cylindrical rooms just covered in controls, every inch utilised and kind of furnishings in the walls

I had a breakthrough today in some of my understanding of relativistic physics. 🐱🚀

      I think. 🤔

      spoiler

so if tau ceti is 13 light years away , it takes HM 4 years to get there and only just over 2 years for the beatles to get back, it’s still 13 years Earth time for the HM and 13 for the beatles , regardless of how fast they go, because each is measuring time and distance differently and velocity is not additive

Yep. That seems right. Everyone has their own rulers and clocks. It’s all consistent within the observers frame. The paradox only happens when you try to reconcile between the two.

I studied relativity - it was my favourite (general relativity even more!)

          🐱

I swear it busts my brain , mainly the part where distance increases between two points when a body slows down

Yeah it’s wild! We didn’t study it until 3rd year uni and we all had these exact conversations! It’s mind-blowing but fun when you realise you grasp a little piece
