Some teenagers beat up and actually killed a guy at our local train station. Of course all the Facebook comments are about machetes, making sure they get tried as adults, and whether they’re out on bail already.
I’d like to know whether the attack was random or if they knew the guy. We’ve almost made it illegal for kids to be online or outside, so what do people expect them to do? The only people who care about what kids are up to are people who hate them and don’t want to see kids anywhere. If only we had some larger social project kids could feel like a part of

But I really really really don’t agree with the explanation for murder being because someone was banned from social media or didn’t play outside enough, so of course they’re gonna go murdering?! You’re right about one thing though, these kids are growing up in families where no one cares about them. The parents are disinterested in what the kid is doing socially, where they are at 3am on a Tuesday, if they are doing ok in school, if the 10 knives and 3 machetes the kid has in their bedroom seems normal. The kids themselves are motivated by approval of their peers, kudos, and no repercussions. I don’t know what the answer is.

I do agree that some kind of social project would be helpful - sport and religion used to do this function, but nowadays religion has been hijacked by extremists (of all kinds) and is no longer even geographically inclusive, and sport is either too ‘professional’ or is too much bother/expense to be inclusive. There really isn’t an obvious forum of endeavour for those that aren’t ‘good at sport’ or whatever.
My thesis is that the most addictive drug in the whole universe is - excellence. Once experienced, nothing else comes close. I fully endorse mobilizing community resources to find forums of endeavour that allow nearly everybody to experience excellence in some form or another.

Nowadays, fast cars, meth and firearms are doing quite a good job in weeding a lot of non-viable idiots out of the gene pool. Especially in combination.

My mum tells me that back in the day, you would just go out with someone consistently and it automatically became a relationship. There was no “are you seeing other people?” or “put a label on it” talk. Seems a lot simpler.
All I know with this guy I’m seeing is that we are enjoying each others’ company and are not seeing other people. It feels too soon to call him my partner.
If it feels too soon, then it is too soon. All will become clear in time. Meanwhile, enjoy each other’s company. And don’t stress about labels.

Pre internet dating you were more likely to date someone from your social group, uni, work, friends of friend’s, etc. So you both had a better sense of each others dating status. (ie seeing someone else) But, that didn’t automatically mean x number of dates puts a label on anything. Everyone’s different, take things fast or slow, whatever feels right for you. It’s no one’s decision but yours.

Agree that’s great value. These days it’s standard to pay $25 for avocado toast that comes with 1 slice of bread, some greying avocado and 1 egg. Oh, and don’t forget the 4 sprigs of micro herbs on top and a half teaspoon smear of beetroot relish on the plate which is useless to scrape up onto the food.
It pays to live in a povo suburb. This place is an absolute gem.

I was thinking about buying a few more food storage containers and somehow ended up ordering a cutlery set instead.
I wanna get glass or stainless for meal prep storage but haven’t found anything I like. Ikea has glass but it reviewed badly on Oz bargain.
Glass more practical if you plan to microwave straight in the container. Stainless is lighter and won’t break if you drop it. Dilemmas!
Kmart has a range of glass containers that I quite like. The lids are weird with a little pop up button and you CAN’T open the container until you pop up the button. Found that out the hard way.
