Good night all ❤️
What do youse guys do with books once you have read them?
Do you keep everything, keep some, toss all?
I tend to keep reference books, work/technical books that I use and books I haven’t read yet. The rest are given away or donated or even put in the trash. I have little sentimentality regarding books, it has to be very special to keep.
I keep everything.
Unless they were boring, I buy another shelf and add them to the collection. I reread good ones regularly. Just looking at them on the shelf can set off a memory cascade near to actually doing so. It takes many boxen to move house!
I reread books a lot too, only get rid of them after a few reads.
I have a lot of boxes worth of art books, mostly technical or australian , well, not that many really, maybe 5
Exactly the same as you.
I don’t buy books any more because I don’t wanna make the decision of keep, throw, donate.
I only buy technical books now or out of print or books that aren’t digitised, the rest is audiobooks
I have a lot of books to go through for my future bookcases already. I don’t wanna add to the decision making later on. I have so many I still need to read.
I’m going thru my books and records this week, I always find items to toss
I rarely read physical books any more. I used to have lots of them, I had filled a big bookshelf and was trying to figure out where I could fit another one. Then it occured to me that the money I was looking to spend on a new shelving unit could buy a lot of books at the secondhand book store. If I did decide to read them again it would be cheaper to just buy them again than to pay to keep them. I gave away almost all the books (and managed to sell a few of the better ones) and now only keep reference type boooks I may want to go back to.
I find it a bit odd how sentimental people get about books, as if giving away books is somehow destroying knowledge instead of spreading it.
I tend to keep - which has been a problem as I read a lot. Since getting the kindle app on my computer & phone, I buy fewer books. I really must do a search and destroy on the bookshelves to remove duplicates. The trouble is I don’t trust computers - paper books are always available even if the power goes out. Also the kindle app is crap for pictures and photos. I do use my local libraries a lot.
same reason why I keep some of my books
I used to keep everything, but moving around a lot and renting made it really hard. I lost most of my books after a bad break-up. Now, with the Minipeelers in the picture and living in a small space, they’ve got heaps of books and occasionally we do a cull to pass some over to younger relatives. They’re allowed to keep as much as they like.
I will never forget living alone in a freezing house a couple of decades ago, with no money and a fireplace. I had every jacket and doona on and was still freezing, so I made the decision to burn some books to keep warm. As a former student of literature, this was heartbreaking. The process of deciding which books would be burnt and which could not was not something I ever wish to repeat.
Saw real orchids today so here’s an obligatory Lego vs real orchid comparison

the lego is pretty but the experience is different
there isn’t the nurturing of the plant a whole year, then the excitement of seeing a new stalk, a spike, how many flowers will it have, how many spikes, do I train the flowers on supports or leave then natural like on the trees, ( I leave the flowers to cascade in beautiful natural arches ) looking at the buds grow and then finally after many weeks of seeing spikes and buds the first one blossoms and it is beautiful
Very true.
but they are all lovely and lego is all year, even when skies are grey 😺 thanks for posting,
because the right answer seeing good and saying thanks 😺
I’ve got a lavender cutting in a glass of water and am waiting to see if it roots
🙂
Lego Botanicals are perfect for people like me with ‘anti-green’ thumbs.

Venting is part of what we are here for. And self-compassion can be a good thing, and can also be a slippery slope which I hope your therapist recognises. Sisters - I have one and she can STILL push my buttons even after decades of very separate life paths. I thoroughly approve of noticing things in the moment - this is a very good path to self-awareness which is the root of real self-compassion - the good sort. A momentary lapse in self-control is NOT a life sentence. We all have them. Be kind to yourself going forward.
Thanks Witchy ❤️
believe what your senses and rational self is seeing and saying
also, in a world of equality why should you automatically believe others before you believe yourself
and so many many hugs
I do not deny this is a sad experience
I understand how you feel. I’m not going to go into specifics.
I hope things get better soon ❤️
I missed being able to read this but would probably have said something supportive
Just after 2 pm in December and I have to turn the lights on. Wtf?
Poot. LittleOne does not like Solstice dinner treat. Spherical Void incoming.
Just checked the radar - looks like I got home from market trip just in time. Stawm incoming!
It’s cold out there!
I did not quite make it but home now. Mmmmmm rainy sunday…
Back from friendmas, the pudding was a hit. Am also drunk and stoned. I ate so much, we did a good spread.
How good does it feel?
Fucking awesome.
I’m playing 80s music and Tool
Went to gym
Then mowed the lawn.
Washed the car
Got sunburnt.
Had Korean for dinner.
Am drunk.
Am stoned.
Loving life.
Reading this bleary-eyed at 8:30am and momentarily thought you had the most productive sunday morning ever! Still sounds like a great Saturday
So great I got up at 1030
Thinking about what I can make to the big fam dinner
Last year I brought fairy bread, it was a giant hit and everyone had some.
Unlike a previous time when I made focaccia with designs made of herb leaves and flowers made with vegie slices , that was only half eaten.
I’m on befores. Still deciding b/w gyoza or springers or both. Pretty much same filling.
Also on the cards is fried zucchini chips. Wonder if double frying will keep them cronchy.
I’m on afters this year. Pudding and [this creation](Black Forest Lamington Wreath Recipe | Coles https://share.google/09f6k0UCQQDFG659T) are on my list.
I thought this recipe looked cute.
Trifle? I love trifle and we always had it at Xmas when I was a kid. I’m the only one who eats it now, so I’ll only make it for guests (and for the breakfast leftovers)
I love trifle too, I think I will make that for when friends come over 🙂 I might get some grand marnier and make an orange themed trifle 🙂
I like little meringues with whipped cream ?
I’m doing the fairy bread, 😐 They get what they want
also two kinds of shortbread, half a panettone, and 1.5 kgs of my spicy burgers for the bbq ( which were a hit last year )
Nibbles, mains or sweets? I’m on sweets this year and am bringing ginger bread biscuits and rum balls.
As part of the holiday unKAOS I want to wash all my blankets. Am gonna enlist some outside line time from a mate. Cotton ones are fine but how do I wash those old woolen ones? You know the ones with the various check patterns that no-one ever buys but everyone has? Tips?
Short gentle cycle with cold or warm water - NOT hot. Most machines have a ‘wool/delicates’ setting. Use woolwash liquid as it’s formulated a bit differently and rinses out very well. Add 1 teaspoon of eucalyptus oil to the rinse water. Spin well at slow or medium speed. Line dry by pinning across two parallel washing lines - peg every 30-40 cm across the top & bottom edges to keep them straight with the bulk of each blanket making a trough between. All that is best done on a hot day with a brisk northerly wind. Do not under any circumstances put the blankets in a tumble or spin dryer, or they will emerge half the size they were before. Which is great if you want to make dog blankets but not very useful for bedclothes for people. Nearly forgot - clean your lint filter between each load as it will collect truly vast quantities of lint from washing blankets.
Awesome. Thanks…yes I am gonna wait for a 35 degree day.
The higher the fire danger rating, the more suitable for blanket washing.
Mine are an especially unattractive pinkish brown and puke green 😹
That’s the one! Haha
With woolwash on a cold gentle cycle. If you don’t have woolwash use liquid washing detergent and if you don’t have that dissolve some powder into some water before adding.
Usually you would wash woollens in cold water so they don’t shrink but warm water for blankets should be fine if you prefer.
Wait for a nice warm day to hang them out.
Awesome that’s what I was thinking. Will take them to the laundromat and use one of the bigger machines too.
In that case definitely use cold water.
Second this.
I usually wouldn’t wash them unless they have some sort of wet grot like cat sick on them. Just hang them on the line and beat the shit out of them with a broom or suchlike. If wet wash is needed make sure it’s cold and gentle. Stomping on them in a bathtub is a better idea than a machine. Hot water and too much agitation will get you lumpy felt.
I don’t recommend you put the blankets in the washing machine, they will be too heavy for the machine when wet.
if they really do need a wash take to the dry cleaners.
Proud day to be an Aussie 🇦🇺💛💚💛💚💛🏏
oi
cousin’s husband called husband and asked him to tell me that I am making a trifle 😐 my cooking might not always look good but it’s always made with top ingredients and is delicious
so that’s two trifles I’m making now, a plain one for fam with kids, a grand marnier one for with friends
