Myself and Miniest were just in an incident where the bus driver had to slam on the brakes really hard to avoid a collision. I ended up on the floor in a weird position with Miniest on top of me, with a container of cookies she made in Home Ec stopping her head from hitting the floor. Cookies ftw ✋🏼🍪🤚🏼I heard a weird gristly sound (either my neck or cookies) She saw people hit their head. Nobody bleeding or seriously injured (that I know of) but I landed on my own arm and it’s a bit sore. It’ll be bruised tomorrow I reckon. I was carrying some Cinnabon cake and a frittata and both were undamaged! 😮😃This is the second time this has happened to me on a bus, so just sayin be careful out there!

It’s Gibson’s “welcome to ruling a human life” day next week.

I found the photo I took before I opened the cat carrier at my place

    Depressing medical stuff

    Keeping it short.

Ol’ girl had some teeth pulled a week ago, I said it was a bad idea. Only eating glucose really. Refuses soup, fuck all water, no exercise, cracks it at everything, down 4kg. It took months to to slow that weight loss, and then the same again to get it back up.

Everything I’ve tried to do over the last year has just evaporated in a week.

I have no idea how the ol’ boy is expecting to do this japan trip they’re planning in like 20 days’ time.

That trip sounds like such a bad idea. How long has it been booked for? Is it sheer stubbornness or does he truly not see the state she’s in? Does she want to go on the trip? Lots of questions, none of which you need to actually answer, btw! That’s rough as.

It is a bad idea. Been booked for a year. I was hoping to use it as an excuse to get her in better shape but the punches keep coming. He sees her state and we’ve locked horns far too many times how to best go about it but I just have no say. She is very worried about the trip.

I honestly don’t know what to do from here :(

      so many hugs

what is her favourite food? even cakes are good food, they have eggs and butter and flour , try cakes , not kidding

I used to make giant apple crumbles and huge fruit bread loaves ( made with eggs ) for a friends elderly parents, it was easy to eat, healthy and very appetising

        what is her favourite food?

Yea that’s the problem. I keep on trying different things (soft diet / puree only) but it’s always hit and miss.

I’m not sure if she’ll try it but cheese soufflé is quite soft and isn’t too bad to make if you don’t fuss about getting the height. I made it in home ec when I was sixteen.

Basically it’s cheese sauce and yolks(?) folded into stiff beaten egg white and baked with the ramekins or bowl sitting in a pan of water. It ends up like a soft moist pudding.

Edit: That said you’ve already done more than your share of catering and effort also has to come from them

I’m assuming you’ve tried steamed eggs? Sauce on top can be anything she likes. Even a sweet sauce. Congee was a lifesaver for me when I had most of my teeth pulled out a couple of years ago - didn’t need chewing. Can be made sweet or savoury.

Oof. I had one tooth pulled and while that pain was manageable it gave me the worst headache and made me hesitant to eat in case I would disturb the site and cause dry socket. Straws were forbidden.

NG tube is an option or even parenteral nutrition but I know it will be refused. I have a quick no temper stovetop custard recipe using real eggs but she doesn’t sound like a fan of sweets. And ol’ boy won’t cook it.

I don’t know if you can get through to him but I’m hoping she manages okay. I really am. I don’t envy the position you’re in, all the responsibilities but no say. If things go sideways it won’t be your fault.

Yea I’m pushing for NG or even just IV for hydration but I just can’t move these decisions.

you’ve been really helpful with all this melba and can’t thank you enough, sincerely.

maybe he just isn’t saying anything

trying to keep it positive for her ( and himself )

in fact, is she looking forward to it? That might be an incentive for her to behave better

I don’t believe as a doctor he doesn’t see what is happening

Yep that’s exactly right. He is trying to stay positive and he knows what’s happening so giving him that.

She’s not looking forward to it. I was just hoping to get her more confident (w/ walking, eating etc.) but this is a big spanner and I’m out of things to do in that amount of time.

I ticked off another item on my ’ meant to do this months ago’ list. I just ordered a UPS for the modem so I can continue to have internet in the case of power failure. It also means my security cameras will be able to continue recording even if someone flips off the power switch. Most of the cameras are battery operated, but that doesn’t help much if there is no internet to send the information to.

Happy birthday to my terrarium which turns 7 today!

Facebook reminded me of a post I made about the workshop I did where it was created. The original plants I put in died after a couple of years, and I replaced them with some wild leafy plants I found growing on top of the water tank. They are not the most aesthetic, but they are surviving. I thought they might not survive the move as I don’t have anywhere very bright to put it in, but it seems to be going ok so far.

Today is my perfect summer weather. Sun’s out, refreshing breeze, none of that awful humidity from yesterday. Too bad it’s a work day but I’m out enjoying it for a bit.

When I woke up it was 8 degrees outside and still 15 degrees inside. It is still a wonderful novelty to have a house that is properly insulated, my old house would have been almost as cold inside as out. I also have a magpie sitting on the back fence singing for me.

It’s lovely to have some cooler but still clear and sunny days. I’ve got the next week off and have some gardening plans and it looks like the weather is going to fully cooperate. Unlike the last break in spring where it was near constant rain. The current plan is to do some work on edging and weeding the back garden over the next couple of days, then have a load of mulch delivered on Wednesday. I’ll get a eucy mulch for the native area and to do the path area along the fenceline, then I might get a couple more bales of sugarcane mulch to refresh the herb garden.

Melbcat got seen, pain meds back up to original dose, another urine sample taken because the original results went AWOL. Blood may have been taken… Follow up tomorrow.

    Mundane

I managed to make good suggestions to a lady in the waiting room that was having some difficulties administering meds.

She was struggling to give a gabapentin capsule to her agitated cat to chill him out but did have a syringe on her so I suggested dissolving the contents in water with one of the free paper cups. Sometimes dripping liquid into the cheek pouch or mouth is less traumatic.

I also double checked whether it was available as a transdermal cream (which can simply be rubbed inside the ear flap) and it was, so I suggested getting some compounded for next time.

She asked if I was a vet but no, it’s just not my first rodeo with this kind of thing. Melbcat struggles and gets extra stressed with whole dry pills.

    Gross

I also got to clean caked dog shit off the wheels of the pram and carry it over the carpeted area to the lino (because it needs to be stored inside). Because I didn’t want to be scrubbing it out of the carpet.

So that was fun. I’m so glad when people don’t pick up after their dogs on footpaths. Especially when visibility is poor. /s

Tomorrow Today I’ll see if I can snap the wheel castors off for a proper soak and scrub in the laundry sink.

I deserve some kind of treat but can’t think what.

I’ve been so busy and preoccupied I completely forgot it was my father’s birthday, a month ago. Did not give it one thought until this morning when I wondered how old he is. ( very old, he comes from one of the longest lived families in his country, so he could last another ten years )

I’m not upset or anything, just noting that I really am well over my FOO, they are out of my life in actuality, and as much as possible out of my head.

I tried watching a movie at my computer last night because I’d usually rather watch something on the TV but some movies might have loud moments that scare the kids.

The main thing is i need to make sure I get high quality torrents because even 1080p doesn’t cut it on these 4k monitors
