Another day off tomorrow. I’ve got the medical certificate and other stuff out of the way. Once I drop the kids off this could be a full eightish hours off just me time. There are a few small things I want to do that could take up a morning or mid afternoon, but I can primarily just chill.

I have a cute little story to tell you. YL went to visit a potential pet parent yesterday.

The brief: Looking after a lovely chill little assistance dog (chihuahua) on occasions that doesn’t like to be left alone because his little pal (dog) left one day and never came back.

Reality: YL is let into the home and notices a tiny little dog hiding shyly behind dog mama. Out of nowhere a bird comes and lands on her shoulder and starts talking to her. “Are you ok?” It says.

Dog/bird mama says “Oh I forgot to ask if you’re ok with birds” which YL replies with “yeah. All good”. “Great let’s met the rest of the family”. YL is thinking “humans?”. No. Wrong. 6 other birds. Buddy (not actual name) is now preening her hair. Gently. Not to be out done, another bird comes and lands on her head. They are both now preening her. Gently.

Some notes: Buddy likes shiny things. Buddy likes to hide shiny things. Watch out when you turn on the ceiling fan.

If you can’t find cutlery, check the ceiling fan.

Be careful shutting the dish washer. They like to get in there. Also cupboards. Anything really that gets left open.

Showering alone is not possible unless you lock them out of the bathroom. If you don’t mind, they will watch you, make comments or try to shower with you.

If they see you washing your hands they will try and bathe in your hands. All of them will want a go.

Be careful when turning the corner in the hallway. They like to have races.

They will try to drink from your cup.

There’s no TV. They ate it.

Conclusion: She was a Disney Princess for an hour. She loved it and cannot wait. I laughed the entire time she told me this story.

The bar I was at Saturday night lessens the horror of your bill by presenting it with a sweet treat. This time it was macarons and I overheard the staff moaning that the only ones left were blue and they stain everything. I gleefully offered to swap my passionfruit one for a blue one and oh, stain everything it does indeed – lips, fingers and, ah, some internals.

How tedious is peeling prawns? The temptation of peel, eat, peel, eat is great but I didn’t sample any and kept all the bits for a nice stock. Well done me.

Best case scenario is they kind of forgot about you and you can just turn up and do whatever like you’re in Office Space

start just doing some documentation here and there. That way if they go “WHAT DO YO DO??” and you’e like “here is my work I am important person documenting processes as per good practise.”

    Slug Fight

But I have questions. So many questions. How are fights resolved? how do you know when it’s ended? What is the concept of dominance and submission in the slug world?? How do they classify defeat???

Tho I had no idea this doesn’t surprise me.

marine molluscs fight each other, they predate each other and other animals, they have poison stings too

sometimes I find shells with a small round hole, that’s from another mollusc attacking it, drilling a hole, stinging it , then eating it

oh yeah there’s a lot of seashells you can see any given beach with predation marks. But slugs have snot and farts as defense and offence mechanisms so…

I think I’ve found a new regular barber. Where the old place was usually a half day affair with all the waiting, I was straight in/out with this one
