    “Panel needs replacing on a car? Going through insurance will run it at $2200. Skipping all the paperwork going straight through me will be $1100. However, if you want it done on the weekend, cash in hand, let’s make it $800.”

        Nah, had to move that car on a year ago. It was beautiful, fun and entirely impractical. I’ve now got a little zippy hatch. Compromised on the convertible by getting a sunroof, lol.

      Cash economy is strong. I’m moderately sure my first few employers were paying me cash but not paying taxes/super etc. I was a clueless teenager getting cash envelopes and didn’t know better. I’m probably owed a couple hundred dollars in super from each of them.

      I need to find that guy! Trying to get a replacement door for mine and they all want to go through insurance and charge bajillions.

      I would love for this to happen honestly. I was quoted 2.5k to replace a panel a few years ago. Haven’t done it because the car is probably worth 5k and it’s still functioning okay ish.
